I am reading a book on prayer and in one of the chapters the author speaks of fasting. So should we fast today? I have rarely heard of this subject in Baptist churches. My church has never spoke on it in the near year I have been there. So what are your thoughts? I know when I was involved in the Christian & Missionary Alliance those guys made a big deal out of fasting, but most Baptist churches I have been in do not.

Should we fast yes, but fasting was never intended to be an end in itself as fasting in itself is of no consequence. There first needs to be a reason to fast and it is to be always accompanied with prayer for some burden. So the reason to fast is when we have a great burden that we do not want to just pray about and then leave it. We stay with the burden and prayer until we have an answer or feel it is time to break the fast.

We teach fasting as a spiritual discipline. It is an important one that I utilize in my disciplines from time to time.

My walk is never more powerful than in the midst of a season of fasting and prayer when seeking Gods direction for life and ministry.

Fasting makes you humble, and the ears open a bit more. God hears the humble. You will get a deeper revelation of God's word. You should try it in faith.

Thats good. Not a single Baptist church I have been in has emphasized fasting so yours may be a rare exception.

Fasting must have some positive value ... as slowing has the opposite.
