No, Fred Phelps and the rest of his Kool-aid drunk clan do not represent Calvinism. Oh, they may claim Calvinism, but they do not any biblical definition of Christianity, much less Calvinism.

And, I'm pretty sure you know there is a difference between what the Phelps clan believe and do and what those on this forum who are Calvinists believe and do. That you would attempt to besmirch the name of brothers and sisters here on the BB by comparing them to the Phelps clan is shameful on your part. Or, perhaps, by comparing the BB Calvinists to the Phelps' you are implying that we are not, in fact, Christians.

Either way, it is a display of shocking immaturity. You are not "doing unto others" and that says volumes about you.

Matt you already know that I disagree with Calvinism, but I hardly think that most Calvinists would say that God hates people. Phelps says that, yes, but I don't believe this is typical Calvinist teaching.

Just this past week I witnessed people from a DoG church serving and delivering meals to homeless and shutins. They wouldnt do that if they didnt love people.

Phelps is the exception, not the rule of Calvinists, just like Hyles is the exception and not the rule of IFB.

Well, I certainly believe that Calvinism has lots and lots of very VERY bad false teaching, but to bring in those lunatics from Wesboro out in Kansas into the mix is a low blow.

I am certain that NO calvinist on here...or anywhere else...would claim those kooks in any way shape or form.

You can make your point in better ways than this.

...and the personal attacks on the Calvinist brothers on this site continues. Coupled with implications that they are "westboro-ish" here, "JW's" and "Mormon" on other threads, "in darkness" &c, all to suggest and cast doubt upon their salvation which is obviously allowable behavior.

All I can say is blessings to you and those of you who believe and help facilitate such things against other brethren.

I'm not a Calvinist but Westboro isn't a good example of anything! They are a bigger insult to Christianity than Islam because they pretend to be something they are not (wolves in sheeps clothing).

This one time I'm going to defend Calvin. Ya'll mark it on your calandars, cause it may never happen again!

Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist church are a great example of Baptists.

Oh wait, that's not true either. No Calvinist on here would teach anything close to the hatred and heresy that is taught by Phelps.

Let's keep these types of things out of the forum. There is no need for this.

I'm glad to see saner heads have chimed in on this thread. I don't think you're going to get any agreements on this one.

Matthew, I'm not a Calvinist, but that's a very cheap shot.

And you are proud of this? Not good to be proud of unchristlike behavior. Why don't you treat your brothers in Christ with respect instead of cheap shots like comparing Calvinists with the heretics at Westboro.

Comparisons to the Westboro bunch is inappropriate for any of us.

I disagree with calvinism, but this is way over the top. Phelps has nothing to do with being a Calvinist anymore than he is an example of Baptists.

It's just a little parody of a certain poster here on BB.

Let me know when you start calling out other posters for calling IFB "in darkness", "trash", and the like, ok?

I have actually called out others, but thanks all the same. If it was just a parody, you should do a little better job of letting people know. Your reputation wasn't that to take this as a parody.

Exactly. Track record here of matt wade does not support a retro to parody. I have serious doubts (and good reason) that he meant this to be parody.

I've seen this applied to Calvinists.

I am not reformed but this is just unnecessary to tie reformed folks to Phelps. It is just not honest.
