We generally visit my Mother-in-Law on Christmas, and when it falls on Sunday, attend their church. ( Southern Baptist). Found out that this year, they will not be holding services on Christmas Sunday. The vote to cancel was lead by the pastor and approved the deacons. She and my Father-in-Law are both upset and embarrassed. She didn't want anyone to know they were not having church.
I was just wondering if your church was cancelling all services on Christmas Sunday? I know my home church is having a short Christmas Eve service and then regular 10:30am service, but no SS.

We'll be doing four services on Christmas weekend...three Christmas eve and one Christmas day. All four will be the same service. No groups or extra programming with occur, just the services. The Sunday service will be at 11:00 am.

If churches choose to cancel their Sunday service I support that, if they choose to have them...just the same. If a church chooses to have full programming, or partial, or none...so be it.

Our Christmas focus is families...as usual. When families get to spend time together we see that as a win.

    How Sad....

.....It is probably another sign of the times...when I was a pastor, I loved Sunday Christmas services. The church was filled, and the "reason for the season" was celebrated.

Our church is having one short morning service. Our children are both coming in from out of town Christmas morning so we will miss services this Sunday.

Christmas eve service, then a 10am morning Service on christmas. No SS and no Evening service.

Our pastor has tried to push anyone to attend, and we recognize it may be a low turnout....and I believe he as actually Counseled one father of 5 that it would probably be better for his family harmony if he did not try to get them all out of the house on Christmas.

Different culture here. 'Everyone' goes to church on Christmas day anyway.

We won't have a service but will have a full Christmas eve service the evening before.

The people that do setup, sing, and serve in other functions (sound, video etc.) decided they would perfer not to come in early for set up on Christmas morning.

After I got saved, my parents (Catholic) couldn't understand why I didn't go to church on Christmas day (when it didn't fall on a Sunday.) To them it was sin.

Yes, our culture celebrates Christmas by going to the mall of their choice instead of the church. Secular religion is horrible. What is even worse, the greatest part of the week where Christians get together to worship a highly exalted God is cancelled because it happens to fall on a day that people say should be spent remembering the God in a Manger. I find it not only ironic, but inconsistent.

Yes, we do too and they are always well attended. We also have a well attended service on Christmas Eve.

    one service 10:15 Christmas Sunday.

Christmas Eve service at 5 pm

That pretty much covers it. I doubt I'll get to go either.

    The Mass of Christ--satire

In as much as the Mass of Christ falls on Sun-day this year, it behooves us all to be extra observant on this Super High Holy Day. However, if we can only participate on Saturday evening after sundown and sing solemnly "Silent Night" five times, everything will be accepted if done within 50 ft. of a nativity scene complete with three lifesized magi, blessed with holy water.

Let us save everyone a lot of trouble--let us go to the local cathedral--they will be having many masses Saturday and Sunday.

"Wherefore come out from them, saith The Lord, and touch not the unclean thing." "Repent and do the first works".

    Happy Sacrifice,

    Peace,

    Bro. James

Christmas Day is one of the most sacred of days in the Christian year. Leave it to Americans to decide we don't need a service that day.

In my opinion, it would be better to give them the next week off, although I'm not a big fan, either.

The church my wife and I have been attending the past couple of months has canceled services Christmas morning (by vote of the congregation), but will be having full services Thursday evening (2 times), Friday evening (2 times) and Saturday Afternoon/Evening (3 times).
