Sounds great, very holiday like, might put a smile on someons face, but it is a bad idea. Since when do we need to be rewarded for doing what we are suppose to? Second who is funding this? Not just the 10 dollars but the time the officer is not doing his job of protecting the public? Hopefully not the tax payer.
I would much rather they be arresting illegals and deporting them. If they want to be seen as good guys then make sure no officer abuses his/her authority while doing the job they are called to.

It is basic human nature to need a pat on the back, in order to affirm that we are noticed, and that we don't have to misbehave in order to get attention.
He is doing his job. People are afraid of the police, and getting a better public image is part of their jobs. Law enforcement alienating the populace leads to an increase in crime.
Not abusing power doesn't make you a "good guy", it only makes you a "guy". Befriending the populace, causing them to trust you makes you a "good guy".

Of course, I am currently serving in the military, and I plan on becoming a police officer when I get out in order to more militarize the police force and thus further my socialist agenda. [/sarcasm]

    The Scripture allows it:

Romans 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

Yes I know of your anti constitutional and socialist views as you have shared them. I think you will fit in well with the demise of this nation and that is not sarcasm.

Excellent response - of couse I would expect nothing less from a GI!

Are you by any chance a 95B? (just trying to drive FAL nuts)

Free - I have a serious suggestion for you -
Why not move to Cuba for a couple of years - then send us weekly reports on the wonderful conditions down there.

Says the guy who advocates the killing of U.S. citizens by sniper fire and drone bombs without the bother of charges or a trial.

Firstly, I have never said anything even remotely anti-constitutional or socialistic. Only in your perverted view of reality could my statements be construed as anti-constitutional or socialist.

Second, even if my views don't match yours, at least I am actively involved in doing what I can do to better the nation according to my viewpoint. It's easy to be an internet champion. It's another to step up and volunteer to help.

I tell you what. With your sick, twisted view of the military and obvious hatred of our nation (as evidenced by your condemnation of kind acts by officers of the law, inability to understand that wishing to change the constitution is constitutional, blaming any loss of freedom on everyone besides yourself, obvious verbal hatred of the military) why don't you join the military and start a change from within, rather than spout off twisted opinions you can't back up? At least we could use you as a body shield, and you'd finally be doing someone some good.

And why expect anything less from a socialist? I understand we do have some in the military who are loyal to the constitution and all it stands for, you are just one of them. Woody you and those like you are the problem. You would rather have a government that dictates to the people then one the people govern. One that justifies stripping away rights and freedoms of the people. You call murdering innocent people of other nations heroic and try and make those who shed light on it the enemy. You follow they same logic as did those who helped bring Hitler into power.

Aww, now we get down to the heart of the matter: government interference. Let's see, I am not for government owning of businesses. I am not for government run schools. I am not for government telling parents how to raise their kids. I am not for government running religion. I am not for government welfare programs. I am not for government run healthcare.

I think that government should stay out of as many things as possible. However, and it is unfortunate, many people have relied on the government to "bail them out" of so many things. And once the government takes control of something, they don't relinquish it. Take schooling, for example.

So, am I for government interference? Guess not.

I have never called myself a hero. You will never hear me call myself a hero. I am simply a man doing a job that needs to be done. If I had my way, we wouldn't be in a war. If I had my way, none of my buddies would have died. If I had my way, I wouldn't have to kill.

But as far as calling people we kill innocent? That is a stretch beyong my imagination. We very rarely engage in offensive operations here. And I have personally never participated in offensive operations. What does this mean? That they attacked me. I killed because they chose to attack me when I would have rather left them alone. Why did they attack? Because we invaded their country? No. They attacked the civilians we were protecting from them, who were carrying wheat seed to farmers up north. I say again, they attacked innocent civilians, who were transporting wheat seed to farmers. We protected the innocent civilians.

So, if you call killing people who are trying to kill innocent farmers murder, then I am still not guilty of murder. Because you calling it so doesn't make it so.

Guess you really don't know what you're talking about, FAL. You presume to know me, and what's going on over here. But you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

FAL, I'm a social democrat and I support the Constitution. Supporting socialism and supporting the Constitution have nothing to do with each other.

I know you are just twisting FAL's tail, but if Woody earned the Sapper tab he is probably a 21B.

Sappers are usually assigned to front line infantry units as support personnel. Earning the Sapper tab is quite an accomplishment. It, along with the Ranger tab, Special Forces tab, and President's Hundred tab, is one of only four skill tabs that are awarded permanently.

The sappers assigned to work with us were all crazy. We would be under fire and they would keep right on working. The guy driving the bulldozer lifted the blade up and the rest of the sappers got behind it and used it as a moving shield and forced the attackers back farther and farther until they ran out of cover and got mowed down by an M60 mounted on their M113 APC. Those guys all deserve a medal in this old 11 Bang Bang's opinion! :)

I don't currently have my Sapper tab, but I am a 12B (changed back to 12 series from 21). There is a common misconception about the term "Sapper". Sapper applies specifically to Combat Engineers (12B). There is a rich history behind the term Sapper, which I will not go into here. However, most people now think that you are not a sapper unless you've gone "Sapper Leader Course". This is not entirely true. What is taught at SLC is what we learn on a daily basis; Demolitions, patrolling, mountaineering, knots. Once someone completes SLC, they are also considered a "Sapper", regardless of MOS.

It is a great honor to earn the Sapper tab, and I plan on going to SLC as soon as I can once this deployment is over.

Woody, I wasn't aware of the Sapper - that came in long after I got off Active Duty.

I want you to know how I appreciate your post # 12!

You laid it out in a very easy to understanding way. - if you are willing to be open minded.

As far as killing the enemy -you are right - just because someone says it is murder - does not make it murder.
Reminds me of my buddies who were in Vietnam - they were called baby killers - yes they might have killed a child 4-8 years old - but what are you going to do when that child is running towards you with a grenade taped to his stomach?

And Woody, likewise I will not call myself a hero. If a civilian insists on calling me one, I inform them I will only accept that title on behalf of my fallen brothers

I wish you the best as you return to the States and on your carrer in the US Army:thumbsup:

    Will you answer two questions?
1a) What is your military experience -
1b) if you did not serve why not?
2 ) Would you consider moving to Cuba for two years and live under their government?

Wow! You must be old! Sappers served in the Continental Army with General George Washington, and in every war since the Revolution. :)

(It was just the SLC and the wearing of the tab that originated in 2004, long after I retired too.)

    :)
