It's going to be in the 50's here in Minneapolis today. It was 51 yesterday. It has been in the upper 40's since New Years Day. We are setting records or near records almost every day. We have had two snowfalls, both were less than 2" each. There is no snow on the ground, anywhere. Yay, global warming! Where can I send money to keep this going?

Same time last year the Metrodome roof collapsed under 14" of snow and we had one of the worst winters in history.

In my part of northern Wisconsin, we've had about two inches total so far. The ground is bare now, which makes potty-training our new puppy a bit easier (being as small as she is).

Despite the radical increase of Co2 emissions from roughly 1940-1970, earth's temperature dropped.

Here in Virginia, having lived here for over 30 years, I have yet to see one record high I caught on the news of 107 one summer day...in 1914, I think it was.

Likewise, in those 30 some-odd years (and yes, some of them were odd), I have never seen the three feet of snow we received about two years ago.

The Goddard Institute for Space Studies removed charts and grafts from their website after the publication of "State of Fear" by Michael Crighton, which he referenced in his semi fictional book to illustrate a few interesting facts concerning "global warming," such as temperature and storm conditions from the 19th century. Where, I might add, it seems that storms were actually worse back then.

He also mentioned that the classification system used for hurricanes was changed, the implication being that this was done to make the opposite of the truth seem to be happening...that storms are worse today. Some hurricanes would nat have been classified as hurricanes under the old system.

Global warming? Doubtful. I think we believe the same thing, that the earth will "burn up" due to an increase in heat.

It is just that we believe that it will happen quickly, due to God's power, not slowly, due to man's.

    God bless.

When my little brother came to Virginia from Alaske to stay with us for a while, he got on the plane when as of yet there had been no snow in Alaska yet, apparently unusual in Alaske (they had problems with permafrost thawing which led to pipes bursting). This was in October, I believe (and I remember trick or treating there with snowbanks piled 20 feet high by this time).

When he got off the plane, he had on a thin leather jacket. I asked him, "Don;t you have any winter clothes?"

"I didn't know I needed them," he replied, "I thought I was going down south where it is supposed to be warm!"

When he got off the plane here...we had snow on the ground, and it was cold.

My guess is you will get your snow...enjoy yourself until then.

    God bless.

Generally, we have 1'-2' of snow on the ground here by this time. This winter is very unusual for us. I'll take what I can get, for I know that Old Man Winter will exact his due soon enough.

    Perhaps...with a vengeance...lol.

I always get worried when we have "good weather" here, it is usually followed by horrible weather.

One thing that happens here more frequently is freezing rain. That is some scary stuff.

    God bless.

Weren't these global warming warners the same ones who were warning of global cooling 35 years ago? What changed?

By the way, about the warming. Bring it on!

What changed is the ability to manipulate the data in that direction.

In my trade, global warming has nearly doubled the cost of heating and air conditioning.

    Who profits? The manufacturers.

    Who loses: the poor.

I do not personally believe that man has enough recorded data going back far enough to track warming and cooling trends.

Isn't it reassuring to know the world will be in place until the Lord decides that time is to be no more?

Truer words were never spoken (concerning global warming, that is...lol).

Though I might add that the ability to manipulate the general public through media has taken a decided turn for the worse (as in they are better at it).

    God bless.

What is the cause of the cost increase?

If it is warmer I can see where it would cost more to air condition - but that should lalso lower heating costs in the winter.

Does it perhaps have something to do with increased regulations?

Due to a fear that we are expending our natural resources (though it my opinion we have not even tapped into what is available), higher efficiency in many areas are not only recommended...but they are now law.

This affects the equipment, as well as the materials that are associated with them, as well as many stages of construction.

R-values have increased, for instance, affecting the cost of duct-wrap and flexible duct.

Because the way to improve efficiency is in large part brought about by increasing coil size, more precious metals are required to build them.

We have seen a dramatic increase in costs for building materials, delivery of goods, increased efficiency demands which, while keeping the polar bears safe, leave those that cannot afford to repair, much less replace, inoperable systems, either going without, making do (wihch usually involves space heaters which can have incredible amp draws and are sometimes plugged in to old circuits not able to carry the load), or being forced to use contractors that have no concern for safety.

Some would say, "Can't they get government assistance?" The answer is yes. But is that what we, as a nation, want to force people to do?

Who really profits from this, other than manufacturers (who, by the way, get slammed as well as the general public, so I am not trying to cast them in a bad light)?

I do not believe it is coincidence that government assistance is one remedy for those who, because of government regulation, really suffer the most in this area.

And I would also clarify, I am in support of regulation of trades, as this is one way in which the safety of the general public is at least partially protected.

And while I am all for more efficient equipment which reduces the need for natural resources, I am against it when it makes it impossible for the less fortunate to have an option for safe, affordable heat.

Not really. We are going to have cold, winter, until God wraps this world up.

Most people that I run into live basically the same way: they have a certain amount coming in, and most of it going out, because most people live in that manner.

I go into million dollar homes, and in poor neighborhoods. Most have the idea that those that live in big homes have money pouring out their ears, and cost is no object for them. What I have seen is that many of these people are just like those in less expensive areas...they have a certain amount coming in, and they live right there on the border.

Of course, some of these do have money to spare, so to speak, because they pinch pennies...lol, which is why they have money.

Anyway, when it comes time to buy heating and air conditioning equipment, they usually come together. You can buy the two separately, however, for some, air conditioning is, like heat, a necessity. And I speak about the elderly, for the most part.

Very much so. The question is, should a government agency have the power to regulate necessities beyond the grasp of the poor? And in the process, establish a need for the government to boot.

I personally believe that there should be allowances made for affordable heating that does not require governmental interference or assistance.

Here we are at a time when the economy has slowed, and people have a need for help that allows them to remain independant, such as tax breaks, and yes, a closer look at the motivation for higher efficiency.

And an even closer look at the consequences for higher efficiency. Most of the regulations that have been imposed on the surface are for "the good of mankind and the planet," but if you are out in the field and see the results of some of regulations, you might have a different view of them.

Sorry for the length, it is just that I have been witness to some of the conditions that arise when reliable, affordable service, is taken out of reach of some people.

I have, since global warming became a popular subject, always looked at it that man will not replace that which scripture tells us will happen with something of his own making. I have always been conscientious about the earth, but we have a responsibility to people before we have a responsibility to earth. And from what I have seen, global warming proponents have done more harm than good.

But, that is just one way to control people, through fear. That is how general populations have always been held in check, through fear that builds reliance on government, rather than God.

    God bless.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_age

Ice ages seem to be localized and not global.

The heavy snow in Alaska and the lack of snow cover in the lower 48 seem to match the climate change predictions. The warmer ocean surface produces more evaporation which comes down as snow. It doesn't have to be very cold to snow.

Old saying, "It warms up to snow." Why? Because the heat the water loses by freezing goes into the air.

The first sentence of your article contradicts you...

"An ice age or, more precisely, glacial age, is a generic geological period of long-term reduction in the temperature of the Earth's surface and atmosphere, resulting in the presence or expansion of continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and alpine glaciers."

So much for having a MENSA IQ.

Leave it to billwald to believe that global warming causes ice ages.
