Pro 26:3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

I am personally against prison sentences and hold to biblical principles for criminal punishment. All prisons do is house those who do criminal acts at the tax payers expense and those who end up there have about a 60 to 80 percent recidivism rate. They seldom rehabilitate and with the high returns it is clear they are not sufficient punishment.

The bible calls for the rod, repayment, or the death penalty depending on the crime. I am in full support for such instead of prison. I will not post any links to caning practices (using the rod) but each can Google under "caning videos" and I suggest you do so before you respond. I see nothing wrong with this practice if carried out under a judicial system. What are your thoughts on this? Do you feel the rod is not Christian and why or is it of God and should be used? Again I suggest that you Google caning videos and see the results of using a rod.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on the rise of crime and the "hiding" of execution behind walls. I think any execution should be shown on the world wide media - broadcast to the world - held in the largest sports arena in the area.

Spending a few hours in the stocks with the community throwing a few vegetables might just be a cure for some of the brain addled.

I am not sure the OP even knows what he asked!!!!!

The "rod" is also an OT word for "rule". The "rod" was used in Korea during the war, but the victim often died from such punishment.

The law can be so criminal, the rod would be an injustice.

The last federal hanging in England was a 17 year old boy. Many years later he was proven innocent. The government sent a letter of apology to the family. There were many "criminals" executed in Canada before it was abolished. Many were found innocent of those crime.

Twelve (I think) men sat in a Chicago prison awaiting the death penalty. A young law student studied their cases and proved them ALL innocent. Illinois put off the death penalty.

Taxas executed a Christian lady who did a crime, but repented and witnessed to other prisoners for many years. George Bush refused to list to those appealling her death sentence and she was executed. Such actions can be repeated over and over, and that's just in so-called civilized countries.

I lived under the rod in English schools, and it didn't do a thing to make me better. We got the rod across the hand for writing left-handed!!!!!

    Cheers,

    Jim

If you cannot answer the question I asked then you cannot interpret the verse you asked about.

Just read the OP and answer the questions as it does not take any verses to answer the questions.

You have made numerous assumptions so why ask any questions? I asked you a question to make you think first.

Sorry that you don't understand English, let alone Hebrew.

    Cheers,

Not to derail the thread, but being a Texan and knowing Bush, I would like to provide a bit of the insight to the reason he did not stay the execution.

First, is that under the Texas system, a person has to provide evidence of a miscarriage of justice - that is the punishment doesn't fit the crime. In the case you gave, there was no doubt. The lady admitted to the horror done. Bush had very little option. Unlike some areas of the US, the governor of our sovereign country cannot just pardon or commute.

Second, though there was clear evidence of conversion, that did not excuse the crime. No matter how good or what good the person becomes, the criminal courts of Texas generally do not excuse and pardon/parole boards are not at the death penalty level.

I know he wrestled with the decision he had to make, and rather than doing what was politically popular, did what was right. But that is most characteristic of the man.

Unlike the other valid illustrations that you gave, Jim, the Texas case did not have an innocent person on death row.

Besides you can fit the entirety of Europe and part of Asia in the space that Texas occupies. Texas has more livable and inhabitable land than any other state in the US. Alaska may claim it is bigger, but the population can't live on most of it.

I think we do a rather remarkable job compared to other states and the world.

Now enough of Texas pride - on with the OP. :wavey:
