Just curious how the pastors/teachers hear on BB felt about this!

seen the range from Must be able to use the original languages and incorporate it into bible studies, to a luxery, as more important to know you are called and praying and allowing God to use your talents/skills!

There are a great many tools that are helpful in this area. Becoming a scholar in the original languages is not necessary. But it is helpful to have had a basic set of courses in each.

Seriously, STOP ASKING SO MANY OF THE EXACT SAME QUESTIONS! JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A DIFFERENT USERNAME, DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD START ASKING THE SAME QUESTIONS AS YOU DID WITH THE OTHER USERNAME. THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN DISCUSSED!

IS THERE A THREAD IGNORE FEATURE?

    indeed they can and do!

As He allows/permits us to make choices and do acts that ALL still fit into Hos overall plans and purposes!

Best example of this would be in the Cross, as God had foreordained/predestined what happened, but also fit into that Plan man decisions and acts of putting jesu on trial and nailing Him on the Cross!

Seriously are you still fighting that false consent of doctrine? I hope you are only joking. I dont think anyone here is a Fatalist which is false teaching.

I think it's about time for Luke to revisit us in another form! How long do you think it would take for him to be recognized? :D

based upon the various postings here, think several of our non cal bethren equate God being Sovereign to us saying that He determined ALL THINGS directly, that we would not allow for Him to also have permissive will, which most of us hold too also!

Would you say that scholars/translators/theologians would be a necessity, but pastors optional?

I've never met a pastor who hasn't benefitted from knowing the languages.

From my perspective, I'm a fan of the "tools" approach to languages at the basic MDiv level. Equip people for minsitry by requiring two years of Greek and one of Hebrew, teaching them the foundations of the languages (grammar, syntax, vocab, etc) and then also show them the tools they can use and how to appropriately apply what they know to study.

Though a pastor is not disqualified for not knowing the languages, they are certainly made better. We aren't to be novices at this thing. While I make it a hard and fast rule that scholars and (specifically) OT/NT profs know the original languages, it isn't so for pastors. Of course, I have yet to hear a convincing argument as to why a pastor is better off not knowing the languages.

With so many (mostly) free resources on the internet and available within moments around us there is little reason to consider why one doesn't get more prepared for ministry by working on the languages.
