When he placed faith in jesus, to save him...

Did he respond to preaching, signs and wonders, or just what moved him to receive Christ?

was Jesus that glorious appearing to motivate him tomplace his trust that a dying man could and would save him?

Where do you come up with these questions?

What signs and wonders did he see? What preaching did he hear?

He got saved the same way we do. He saw who Christ was and who he was and trusted Him.

Maybe he was just afraid of hell.

Too many pastors teach the fear of hell instead of the love of Christ leading them to repentance..

Do people get saved because they are afraid of hell, or because they repent?

I think just like Abraham he died in faith not having received the promises and he will be saved by grace through faith.

False dichotomy. The fear of hell leads many to repentance including myself.

You'll have to ask him one day. No way to know the mind of another.

How do you know what he saw and heard previous to dying on the cross?

    How do you know?

He saw Jesus for Who He really was/is, the Messiah.
