Yikes... if that abp is correct (seem a bit on the tabloid end of things), then something fishy is going on.

Could you clarify how you think the SBC is headed into turbulent times? You piqued my interest.

 

These kinds of things never go completely smoothly. I'm always sad to see someone forced to leave a post. I'm sure Dr Roberts will be well taken care of through this situation. This does create some institutional difficulty.

I don't know if the SBC is facing turbulence...I don't know if that is a fair assessment (not a bad one) because I don't know what specific issues you're talking about. The SBC is always at an disquieted cease-fire these days.

Frankly, if more issues erupt that are completely trivial (or seen to be trivial) most of the younger generation will just throw their hands up in the air and walk out. We have no time for foolishness.

The last 30 years have been institutionally exhausting...here's to praying for an actual peace and not one only forced by the end of a political bayonet.

 

That has been going on for many years. I can remember hearing about issues in 1975 and I was a part of the SBC. Where I lived there was a negative attitude toward anything SBC. The attitude by younger people was that the SBC churches were dying and had a lot of old people in them. Today those same churches have seriously declined and are not expected to survive much longer.

That attitude is everywhere, not just the SBC. Some of the previous generations were about job security and working for a large company. Young people today have seen the fights and disloyalty by corporations and churches. Through the various media enterprises they know about the lies and manipulation. What was once harder to obtain is much easier now and spreads rapidly.

The lack of integrity and worldliness quickly becomes readily apparent.
