I viewed the video & I have my concerns about the man. And 1st let me preface that he & I both have similarities....both of us are sons of Pennsylvania so we know the local terrain. Both of us are from Italian linage (OK Im a mutt but mom's side are Italian) Both of us are from working class mining industry people-- my Grandfathers & his were miners.....Lastly, both raised Roman Catholic. And thats where we part company. See, what concerns me is that Rick is still a Roman Catholic & I dont understand how a true man of faith could remain a Catholic? Further I dont recall a Regenerated Born Again Testimony (if I missed it, please let me know).

As a politician, I know he was real good about paving a way for Pennsylvania to get gambling casinos & I know he is real tight with politicians in Washington....you know, just stuff that causes red flags to fly & me to be puzzled. Your thoughts are appreciated.

basically, as a Christian, have to decide IF better to support for office one who though RC, supports biblical principles as regarding the economy/family/moral values, or else a sincere mormon strong for business, but "flip flop" on social agenda?

that is assuming that you are NOT voting for the president!

Frankly, as I began to listen to the tape I was a bit uneasy, because knowing myself, I knew I’d get a taste in my mouth I couldn’t quite get rid of if he started serving up Mariology and whatnot. But, from personal experience in talking to many Catholics I find the vast majority of them will go right along with the Gospel of salvation by grace through faith alone and they don’t even get into the rituals and traditions of Catholicism, …except for some deep rooted beliefs of allegiance that they need to stay part of the Catholic church, because of family ties, superstition type of belief or whatever, regardless of their view which actually disagrees with much of what the Catholic church teaches.

I heard him talking about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the grace of God etc. and did not gather a hint of him being a deep seated theological Catholic, I could be wrong, but... Again, I find that typical and don’t expect a deep soteriological explanation from most “proclaimed” Catholics that need to be challenged. In comparison, I certainly would NOT expect to hear a Mormon talk about his religion and to come away with the same feelings.

Apart from that, I really liked his values which I considered sincere and his views of being guided by God and how this value should be held in the highest regard and protected in this country.

Much better than the alternatives we werre facing I think. Wanted to say more but GTG.

My take on this would be IF no way to know that any of them are real Christians, would vote foe one that was most solid in social agendas, and of the 3, that would be Rick S!

Roman Catholics Rock!?!?!?....... I would most heartly debate that commentary however I dont wish to turn this thread into a RC Vs Baptist dialog...that is not it's intent. Start another post if your so inclined.

To address your 2nd question, where is his testimony? Reagan gave one & so did Bush. Why cant or wont this guy tell the world his testimony?

My point is a guy can say he is a Christian all he wants.....GOOD, so give me proof....sincere & honest proof.

He's a "Knight of the Order of Malta"...that's pretty deep seated into Catholicism.

Matt's right - that's pretty deep in. But is he just a nominal member(of the Knights), if there is such a thing? - don't know. I was a practicing Catholic for almost twenty one years and grew up among hardcore Catholics but none of them were in the Knights of Malta. Some were in the Knights of Columbus. But one thing I know from experience is that it goes mightily against the grain for a hardcore Catholic to even attend the worship service of another denomination, let alone be prayed over with the laying of hands by a Baptist pastor or any other one, as I have seen video tape of with Rick in Texas and other places. Maybe it's just the group I was raised with since Catholics vary in many things depending on geographical areas/cultural groups. He doesn't strike me as the type who would give in to that for expediency's sake if he didn't believe in it, but I guess anything's possible. I would like to hear a testimony of his faith too. I haven't listened to the link in the OP yet, but I gather from the comments there isn't one there. I have a friend who says she thinks he is an "evangelical Catholic". I have known a couple of those personally and read letters from many in a Catholic newspaper. From all I can tell from what they "say" they believe, they are truly saved. Yes, a testimony from him would be good.

....and like most politicians, he might just be a mountebank.

1: a person who sells quack medicines from a platform
    2: a boastful unscrupulous pretender : charlatan

Just bear in mind what Cicero said when asked about all politicians. He said "Politicians are not born, they are excreted."
