since BOTH churches claim to be the TRUE Church upon this earth, both have apostles, and extra biblical sources cited...

Why would we consider either more right than the other one to cliam tht distinction?

The RCC would simply claim a longer historical pedigree for that claim. However, Arians can lay claim to the same historical pedigree as even some of their early Popes were Arian.

The truth is RCC as a distinctive denomination can only be traced back to the fourth century and no earlier. The Waldeneses claimed to historical origin to the same century and claimed they were the true apostolic churches and were given the keys of the kingdom.

So many make the truth claims of being the true /real church, but how does one decide which one?

Adressed to the RCC that would see theirs as being 'the One!"

Personally I believe Tertullian's two-fold test is the scriptural one.

    1. Right doctrine
    2. Right origin - church of like faith and order

Add 'Iglesia ni Cristo', -a 'church' that now out numbers the J.W.'s- to the organizations that claim 'True Church' status. They are anti-Catholic, anti-Trinitarian, deny the Diety of Christ among other interesting beliefs that were 'revealed' to their founder in 1912. According to their teachings, Felix Manalo is God's last messenger. This 'restored church' originated from the Philippines because God decided to re-establish the Christian Church to its true, pristine form because the original Roman Catholic Church had apostatized. They spend most of their efforts ragging on Catholicism than on defending their newly 'revealed' beliefs.

There is no way to recover exactly what Jesus had in mind. Every denomination fakes it as best they can.

The difference between the LDS (and the JWs, Christian Science . . . .) is they are late 19th, early 20th century scams. "True" Christianity is 2000 years old.

Who are the apostles in the RCC?

I always thought that the Church of Christ claimed to be the true church too.

Of course! We all are all one!

The Hindus have added Jesus as one of their gods. Hinduism is by far the oldest religion, predating Christianity.

Islam is the biggest religion in the world, numbering well over one billion members and the fastest growing. It claims Christ as its prophet.

Yes we are all one. We all worship Christ. Why not? :1_grouphug:

Tertullian got it right. That's why he was a member of the OHCAC (One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church). Yeah, that's right, there was a Catholic Church in the time of Tertullian. Those who deny it deny the truth of history.

    RCC and Mormons both cults...

people do still get saved in those 2 groups, its soely by grace of God, despite their bad teachings, once saved, time to get out of them!

    Both fit classic cult definitions!

    Supreme authority, modern apostles/rophets

    extra biblical sources/"inspired" by god

    deny the Cross/different Gospel

I know, I know, you're the Catholic expert or something. I really just say stuff like this to get under your skin. You're fun to play around with.

Many "Christian" groups and sects also fit some cult definitions. Clean up your grammar and it might be a little easier for me to respond.

I think unity that Jesus speaks about is something far different than what many today speak about.

There are two basic areas of unity the scriptures deal with.

    1. Spiritual unity that comes only through new birth by the same Spirit (Jn. 3:3,5,6) in connection with the same gospel (Gal. 1:8-9) effected by the same God (Jn. 17:3) through the same Savior (Jn. 14:6; Acts 4:12).

The vast majority of world religions are not in union here and the vast majority of Christian denominations are not in union here.

    2. Practical unity that comes only through a common attitude (Eph. 4:2-3) and a common faith and order (Eph. 4:4-16) that is manifested in the ability to form a visible congregation and/or fellowship between congregations (Mt.28:20; Acts 2:41-42). Common essentials are necessary for such unity (Eph. 4:4-6; Heb. 6:1-2; 2 Thes. 3:6; Rom. 16:17; 2 Cor. 11:4; Rev. 2-3).

Within Christendom there are many we are in unity with in the former but not in the latter. The distinction between the two is the first deals with Salvation essentials whereas the latter deals with Service essentials.

There are people who choose to stay simply because they feel as though they have no option but also will tell you that they do not agree with everything.

Do you believe that KJVO groups are a cult?

problem is that the RCC has the wrong Gospel message!

What makes them different is unlike other Cults like Mormons/JW eyc, have the correct view on nature of God, BUT still have false Gospel of mixing faith and works to save us!

CAN have unity with catholics who are saved by grace of God in bibilcal sense. despite their church teachi9ngs, BUT unable to have unity with that church an an entity!

I agree with you and that is the reason why we must not put down others. I think we have enough problems with incorrect doctrine and practice in our own camp that we have enough to take care of.

Not too long ago I met with a young man whose dad was an elder in a local Bible believing church. When I asked the young man to turn to a reference I gave him he told me that he did not know where that book was because the only time he had ever read the Bible was at church. I think if the truth were known we would be amazed at how many differ from what the pastor believes but say nothing or ask any questions. I would wonder how many would say to themselves that they believe in universal salvation in a practical sense simply because they could not see certain people going to hell.

I know for a fact that there are RCC people who are believers are are outspoken about it. When I was in high school the most outspoken person was a young lady in my graduating class who went to the local RCC. She gave out the gospel but I do not know of one other person who ever gave out the gospel to other students then. Certainly I did not hear it from anyone else. God used what I was taught and heard for when a student asked to talk with me about Jesus.

While we may have the right Jesus and the right gospel we need to ask ourselves why would anyone have the experience I had if people truly believed the gospel and the Jesus of the Bible?

That is why I 'fight " for the simplicity of the true Gospel of Christ, as salvation found in him, not in the RCC or any other church!

the RCC NOT only true church, and just want Catholics to see that what saves is NOT what they are taught, but by what the Bible states!
