    God bless.

While we cannot be possessed by evil spirits, we can be oppressed by them. They can put thoughts into our minds and cause us to doubt God if we're not careful--just as Satan did with Eve.

We, as born again believers, can not be demon possessed. When Jesus saves us, the Stronger man comes in, casts the strong man out, and spoils his goods. There's no room left for the strong man to live. When Jesus casts the evil spirit out, it's gone for good, and can not return.

We can still be oppressed by him and his minions though, especially if either we are doing the work of God, as paul was, or else when we neglect the full armor of God!

Why is this considered a serious question?

It's a serious question and it's been around a long time.

I think that a Christian cannot be possessed, but can be oppressed, even tormented by demons at times.

Paul was tormented, 2 Cor. 12:7. He even trusted God in this torment. Literally he was rapped with the fist, but in a 'spiritual' sense. It doesn't sound very comfortable to me.

I know of Christians who feel the same way, evil thoughts &c that they struggle against, feeling like they too have been tormented this way.

If Paul was not immune to it, it looks to me that others may suffer this as well. There are probably some on here that have been subjected to things like this.

I would agree because I know my self that Satan is not one for giving up even though he knows he's lost already. Satan love's to attack God's messengers with all of his firey darts. He will attack anyone who proclaims Christ.

Who in their God given right mind would believe that indwelt Christians can be possessed by Demons? Such suggestions are nonsense and should not be given the light of day in serious consideration. Simple minded garbage like that does not need to be fed by serious consideration. It is absurd.

Hello Mandy, while I can understand viewing this as something that for many of us is not really a question, I would encourage you to consider that for the new believer, there are many questions to which they seek an answer to, as they have not had the time necessary to first hear of the many aspects to our walk, and then to fully understand them, that they can in faith place full reliance upon the Lord and attain the assurance that helps us as we grow in the Lord (sorry for the long sentence...lol).

In general (and this is not directed at Mandy, but to the forum), I will just throw in about a cent's worth, and say that I do not take the "Christian's can be oppressed by demons" approach that many may. While I believe that by association Christians can be oppressed, meaning that through contact with those not born again who are either truly oppressed or even possessed Christians can be oppressed, I do not believe that demons are given power over believers to the point where they can in any way, shape or form...spiritually establish any kind of communion with born again believers.

Rather, the spiritual down-falling of the believers is in my belief attributed, not to demons, nor Satan, but to the unredeemed flesh in which he/she resides. While Flip Wilson may have been controlled by demonic activity (the devil made me do it! lol) it is a major step in our lives to begin taking responsibility for our own actions. It is just part of growing up, I believe.

And if we do that, and we immerse ourselves in communion with God through prayer and Bible-study (for example), demons will be less a consideration in our lives, giving place to the presence of the Lord.

And as I said before, by association we can expect, if we are busy for the Lord, to undergo oppression through association, I do not see a basis for teaching that Christians can be oppressed by demons on a spiritual basis.

And I believe that when the new believer asks questions such as this, this is what underlies their question. And while I grant that I may be wrong about this (and will listen to a scriptural basis opposing this view), one of our greatest responsibilities is to disciple new believers that they might be edified and that they might grow.

And I for one will encourage the new believer to a confidence in Christ that replaces concerns about demon activity with a desire to concentrate on a relationship with Him that leaves no room for concern about demons.

    Psalm 37:4

    King James Version (KJV)

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

The promise of this verse is delight in the Lord, which will replace concern for demons.

We can mount offensive campaigns on demons, and see their efforts confounded...through the glorification of God.

    God bless.
