So you believe that the government should regulate private industry and dictate whom they may sell their product to?

The US Government can levy an export tax on gasoline exported out of the U.S.

I think some people need an economics lesson. There is no such thing as "keep the gasoline in the United States" in a world market. Oil companies are going to sell to the highest bidder to maximize profits. It's called capitalism.

"Export only what we don't need to keep prices low" is a fallacy. Obviously we are only exporting what we don't need and it's a lot of oil! Since other countries need the gas and are willing to pay for it the price isn't going to be lowered.

"Let the other nations refine their own gasoline". Won't affect the price of crude oil in the least. Wouldn't affect prices here at home.

"I want lower pump prices, so stop exporting gasoline." Sounds like a call for government control of free market commodities. Is that what we want?

"America gives too much away to others." America is not giving away oil. Oil companies in America are sellilng oil to others. It's called capitalism.

Suppose you own an oil company. Should you:
    1. Sell your oil only to Americans at $50 a barrel.
    OR
    2. Sell your oil on the open market to Americans and other countries for the going rate, currently $108 a barrel.

Furthermore, if oil production were to increase and demand stay static, the price of oil would decline, to the point where some oil drillers would stop producing oil--it wouldn't be profitable for them to continue to drill. Conversely, when oil prices rise like they are now, more oil exploration and drilling will occur because it is profitable to do so.

People don't need an economic lesson. They are simply "conservatives" only when it suits them. The moment it touches their wallet they cry foul and want to impose regulations and taxes on those "evil" corporations. As long as it doesn't touch their own wallet they are all for capitalism and free enterprise.

    You are correct.

I watched the debate last night and was kind of shocked when the candidates were explaining how business owners should be required to contact a company called e-verify before they can hire somebody. The point of e-verify is to confirm whether or not a prospective hire is an illegal immigrant or not. It occurred to me--isn't this another form of government regulations that is burdensome on businesses?

I'm getting visions of business owners having to check with e-verify before they hire their english-speaking caucasian neighbor recently graduated from college.

I guess government regulations are OK for conservatives if they address a perceived problem with their world view.

Your right of course. It shouldn't be businesses job to police for illegal aliens. Let business hire whoever is available and pay them whatever they wish. It's the government's job to protect our borders and remove illegals from our country.

Now, if there were a finder's fee for reporting an illegal alien, we might have something to talk about :).

    Americans.

In fact, America reportedly has the potential ability to supply all of it's fossil fuel demand and should do just that in order to keep the money here in America and quit providing the Arab bloc nations the funding of their soon to come Global Jihad (complete with nuclear arms) which defies logic.

Haven't we done something similar by supplying Mexican drug lords with US arms under some doublethink strategy which also defies logic?

Oil is a world commodity with demand growing rapidly in developing countries. How do you keep the oil in America?

The first and best way to reduce costs for AMERICANS is to lower the taxes on a gallon of fuel. The government takes the largest percentage of any profit from a gallon sold in every case.

The second and not quite the best way is to tax exports, which will replace some of the funds lost when we roll back taxes for CITIZENS who are seeing the oil from their land get spread around the world, and also make it costly to export. Are they not trying to do precisely that TO US in order to curb the appetite for some things?

Who cares if it's a "world commodity" don't sell it anywhere else but here.

If this were to become a reality there would be a HUGE black market for exporting oil. Can you imagine the special government agency tasked with the War on Oil Exports?
