Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God

    Has anyone read this book? It seems to be very popular among evangelicals and I bet I know the reason why. The book seems to focus on how much God loves us, an that is a message everyone wants to hear. I think that the book does not focus as much on God's holiness, man's sin, hellfire, etc.. Perhaps this is why many evangelicals love these kinds of books, but completely ignore books by Erwin Lutzer, John MacArthur, among others.

    Check out reviews on amazon.com and most of Lutzer's books are ignored and have few reviews. Check out Chan's books and they are loaded with reviews.

    Yeah, heaven forbid people hear too much about how God love us!!! :eek:

    It appears based on this response that you haven't read the book, right?

    Much of the book was his testimony and the things God had taught him in his own life. It is anything but a ear tickling message. This may help...

    "Chan’s walk with the Lord began to change dramatically when he realized he needed to give more of himself away. That meant using his time wisely, contributing financially to the needs of the poor and downsizing his house. Chan believes that Americans have so much and the world so little; instead of laying up treasures here on earth we should do so in heaven. The needs here on earth are great and we have the tools at our disposal to make a difference in the lives of so many.

    What particularly spoke to my heart was Chan’s statement “do not assume you are good soil” in reference to Jesus’ parable in Matthew 13 about the farmer and the seed."

    This was a good read.

    Why are these kinds of books so popular with the evangelical mainstream, while other books that I treasure and value get completely ignored (almost) by the evangelical mainstream?

    Its a tough question. There are books that are just popular with people, yet others I love get ignored and have only a few reviews on amazon.

    Form your clip there it sounds like a very good and profitable book. Probably very rich in spiritual insights.
