You already beat that dead horse.

    Your bitterness is apparent.

You really need to resolve whatever it is that is the cause of your hatred toward those who are "ex-military".

FAL, I invite you to explain yourself further. You're saying that *none* of the military men and women who participate(d) in Iraq and Afghanistan should be allowed to be law enforcement officials.

I'm assuming that your definition of "none" includes the lawyers, the paralegals, the doctors, the x-ray technicians, the contracting officers/representatives, the public affairs representatives, the fuels technicians, the mechanics, the admin clerks, the computer technicians, the radio maintenance technicians, the airfield systems technicians, etc., etc. - "none" of these, if they so choose to pursue a career in law enforcement, should be allowed to follow that pursuit?

Your claim has already been proven to be false (go back a couple of months to our exchanges with you about police who are guilty of committing brutality being prior military; you couldn't prove that claim then, and you still can't).

Your claim also fails the historical test; i.e., WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, Bosnia/Kosovo, Desert Shield/Desert Storm -- and yes, even Iraq & Afghanistan. Out of all these conflicts, how many returning military chose to become law enforcement officials, and subsequently were found guilty of the things you're afraid of? The number is so miniscule that you can't find any reports, studies, etc. that support you.

You know that you're not the first to spout this kind of nonsense, don't you? There were people just like you, spouting the same kind of warning, after each of the conflicts I previously mentioned. And we see how that turned out, don't we?

And yet, you continue to deride the military, and continue to shout your fear of them to the world. Because that's the only thing I can conclude it is: Fear. Mainly fear of the unknown, because you've proven over and over that you don't actually understand the military, or know anything about it.

You're welcome to your opinion, even if it's been proven to be wrong over and over, and thus, you're just being intellectually dishonest with yourself. And guess what? As long as I'm still in the military, I'll continue to fight to defend the Constitution and your right to have, and publicly profess, that opinion. And no, I don't expect you to ever thank me for it. Or EWF, or Tom Cassidy, or the1bill, or Salty, or Sapper Woody, or any of the other dozens on this board who have served in uniform--and sacrificed--so that you can have that right, and continue to publicly profess your ignorant, factless opinion.

You are guilty of the folly described in Proverbs 26:5; you are wise in your own conceit. The only reason I continue to respond to your folly is to ensure that others see that there is a disagreement with what you espouse, to provide them the facts of the matter, so that they don't inadvertantly conclude you're actually correct in your opinion because they don't see anyone disagreeing with it.

    Thanks, Don.

My father is a Vietnam vet and served as a sheriff auxiliary and a security guard. I am a Kosovo vet and have worked as a security guard. I have been asked to train to be a chaplain, and sworn officer, with our county sheriff office. We, and many of our friends, have never abused the people we have sworn to protect. We work in our church, we love our families, we help our neighbors and volunteer in our community.

Sir, thank you, and your father. I don't have much longer left; I'm trying to retire; amusingly enough, for many of the reasons that you'll see FAL post about (see the Marine thread). Funny thing is, they've "bureaucratized" the retirement process so much, that you have to apply for eligibility before you can actually apply for retirement...and they keep denying my first application for silly stuff, so I have yet to be able to submit my actual retirement application. (sigh)

My goal is to teach. Wonder how FAL feels about returning military teaching and influencing our impressionable youth?

    What a colossally stupid conclusion.

Many companies and people stupidly concluded that Vietnam veterans shouldn't be hired at all.

I'm not sure which is worse, but you're make a run for the title.

I am staying out of this thread except to say this. In fact, I have had to remove myself from threads about Mitt Romney and those who support him because it makes my blood boil, so does this.

From this board and life in general, I find that those who come to conclusions like this usually never served one day for this nation, and certainly were never in combat. Nothing gets me angrier than those who start flapping their jaws about those who have served, or how worthless their effort was, or how dangerous they are when they came back. Not a one of these idiots ever raised one finger for this nation beyond their air conditioned homes, offices, or remote controls to protect liberty and freedom while others were in extreme heat, cold, and other conditions that cannot be imagined and saw things that cannot be described. It does not matter if it was Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanastan, or Iran in the future, the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines did not make the political decisions, they just served their nation. It is one thing to debate the policy that got us involved, it is another thing to belittle those who serve. How dare anyone? Carpro, good post, and I am out of here for obvious reasons.

As far as the subject of this op, I would put myself in the arms of the most deranged person to ever come back from combat with a loaded gun pointed to my head than I would want a worthless no load within ten miles of me.

I just busted a gut laughing.

I invite everyone to click on the link FAL provided, and read the last three paragraphs; then compare those to what FAL posted.

Seems to me like someone who has military experience, especially those with combat experience, would be the best person for a job in law enforcement.
