    Thomas Kinkade dead at 54.

Kinkade died alone on Friday at his residence in Los Gatos, a small town about 45 miles south of San Francisco, from what appeared to be natural causes, family spokesman David Satterfield said. No other details were immediately available.

I was sad to hear this. We have a couple of prints of his hanging in my dh's office at church. Makes me wonder if his work will increase in value now that he's gone.

I would not take his stuff for free if I had to hang it on the living room wall.

Apparently God could no longer tolerate his schlock.

Why this reply? I understand not everyone likes his art, but what do you mean by this?

I love his work and am sorry to hear of his passing.

What I enjoy the most about his paintings is his use of reds.

I liked his work and thought it was very beautiful. It's a shame he is gone. May God be with his friends and family during this time.

Although I was not much of a fan of Kinkade's style of art, I did admire him using his God-given talents the way he did.

One thing I will probably always remember about him was trying to piece together a jigsaw puzzle of one of his paintings while deployed to Saudi Arabia during the opening months of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

I was in aircraft maintenance for the C-130 transports, and after we'd successfully launched our planes, there wasn't much to do until they came back several hours later. I never did complete the puzzle, but at least I had something to do to pass the time away.

I have cared for his work, it didn't appeal to me. It is always sad to see someone pass away suddenly. I pray for his family.

A couple I know lost much of their retirement savings when they invested in his failed gallery franchise. They've been working to get it back slowly. He was a difficult, and troubled man.

While the city of Los Gatos is "small." It is also part of the San Jose metropolitan area. Metro San Jose is larger than San Francisco.

First, he painted like Franklin W. Dixon wrote "The Hardy Boys" and Dale Chihuly works hot glass. In other words, they all had/have a production line of grunts that turns out the stuff they sell.

Second, It is a sad excuse for art. I occasional use a men's room that has a Kincade knock-off on the wall, the standard woodland scene with cabin and deer. Someone added a caption, "And then a shot rang out." It lasted several weeks.

I don't know how to post the link from Yahoo news, but I am disgusted to learn that Thomas Kincaid, at the time of his death, was still married but living with another woman. The Yahoo news article said he had been drinking heavily before he died.

I think that is so sad. Makes me wonder if God took him home early because of this.

    Autopsy results out today:

    San Francisco Chronicle:

"Coroner's Office said Tuesday the self-described "Painter of Light" died April 6 due to a combination of ethanol and Diazepam intoxication, or in common terms, alcohol and the tranquilizer often marketed as Valium."

No surprises for those who knew Kinkade outside of his glitzy public persona.

I have little respect for the man though prayer for him to overcome his demons. He had plenty of demons, but sometimes folks just don't want to overcome them.
