    i asked this here in the past, and was told that it dont matter

    yet, i visit many local churches and still do not see preaches using bible with markings in the pulpit

    im curious as to how church members will perceive it

    personally, after considering all the angles, decided not to mark bibles used for preaching

    ======
    this excludes electronic bibles loaded into ipads and similar devices being used these days by preaches at the pulpit
    ========

    what are your views on this? I am very interested in what you think.

    Well, I can tell you that our senior pastor has his Bible VERY marked up. Additionally, my own pastor - my husband - has his bible marked up quite a bit as well although he's been careful about writing in his Allen Bible. There's something about a $200 Bible to make you think carefully about writing in it! LOL

    I think for some it's that the bible that is used for study is different than the bible that is used for teaching. I have an old NASB Key Word Study Bible that's pretty hefty that I used for my day to day study and its marked up, though now I tend to use my computer and ipad more. However I had a smaller thinline bible that I would use to teach from.

    Is the preacher's Bible marked up for his benefit, or for the congregation's? To me, a person's notes in his/her Bible is a semi-personal thing and not for show.

    -My opinion is strictly as a layman.

    Why is it important that a preacher's Bible is marked up or not marked up? Would the fact that he had actually studied be shown in his messages not in an underlined or colored or notes written in it?

    There's a 'preaching bible'? That seems strange to me. Why would a preacher have a separate bible just for preaching? And why would a congregation be affected by whether or not a preacher marks in his bible?

    Really the only practical reason I could see to have a separate Bible would be to have a large print Bible in the pulpit so the pastor doesn't need to use reading glasses.

    Two reason immediately come to my mind.

    1) You might not want to carry a large study bible when your teaching.
    2) Might need a bible with bigger letters to see when your teaching.
