Today's news is full of reports that less than half of America's babies are now Caucasian. This reminds me of some things:

    1) Multinational corporation General Electric only stopped terminating the employment of pregnant workers because a judge ordered them to stop.

(I suspect GE will rue the day it fired those workers.)

    2) Back in the 1970's, there was a move in Congress to create subsidized day care. Religiously conservative women's groups got the bill killed, hoping its death would lead women to stay home and not enter the workforce. Instead, women entered the workforce, but failed to reproduce the population. Obviously, one would have a harder time fiding an example of humans failing to adapt to a changing world. (Today, day care is done by lowly paid workers whose turnover rate is high. Compared to other nations, I say America puts little value on the family and the young.)

Well, while many think gays are the biggest threat to the family, I see 2 worse enemies: business and the inability to adapt to change!

I'm not sure I see how business is the biggest threat to America. If there was no business no would have any jobs.

Family businesses are no threat. Multinational Corps are the threat.

That is an inevitable process of history. The US is gradually moving away from the secondary sector and the primary sector towards the tertiary, quatenary, and even quintenary sectors. Most kids don't want to work in factories or on the farm anymore.

All this said, the biggest threat to the family is not homosexuals or multinationals but adultery and quickee divorce. Observe at the GOP debate a few months ago when a gay soldier was booed while Newt Gingrich, thrice-married stood there.

    >Most kids don't want to work in factories or on the farm anymore.

That's true. But these days most kids want to be the managers and supervisors. No one wants to do the grunt work. Isn't that another way of saying that they don't want to work? The only decent long term jobs these days are government jobs. But if government jobs are lost then in what industries do you think the good paying jobs will grow??????????

Americans have convinced themselves that each and every one is smarter than average and harder working than average. I'm probably the only person on BB who is only an average worker - at best."

We refer to nations as first world nations and third world nations (What happened to second world?). The first class nations are manufacturing nations. Third world nations sell raw materials to manufacturing nations and buy their products. Most of the profits are in the manufacturing, not in selling raw materials.

    From http://www.worldsrichestcountries.com/top_us_exports.html

Top 10 US Exports to Japan

America’s exports to Japan amounted to
$65.1 billion or 5.1% of overall US exports.

    1. Civilian aircraft … $5.2 billion
    2. Corn … $3.9 billion
    3. Medicinal equipment … $2.8 billion
    4. Other industrial machines … $2.4 billion
    5. Meat and poultry … $2.1 billion
    6. Pharmaceutical preparations … $1.9 billion
    7. Telecommunications … $1.8 billion
    8. Organic chemicals … $1.74 billion
    9. Other household items … $1.69 billion
    10. Semiconductors … $1.63 billion

Top 10 US Exports to China

America’s exports to China amounted to
$69.7 billion or 5.4% of overall US exports.

    1. Soybeans … $7.3 billion
    2. Semiconductors … $6.5 billion
    3. Civilian aircraft … $3.9 billion
    4. Plastic materials … $3.1 billion
    5. Other industrial machines … $2.8 billion
    6. Copper … $2.4 billion
    7. Pulpwood … $2.2 billion
    8. Aluminum … $1.94 billion
    9. Steelmaking materials … $1.91 billion
    10. Organic chemicals … $1.8 billion

Top 10 US Exports to Germany

America’s exports to Germany amounted to $54.5 billion or 4.2% of overall US exports.

    1. Passenger cars … $8.5 billion
    2. Pharmaceutical preparations … $5.6 billion
    3. Civilian aircraft … $5.4 billion
    4. Medicinal equipment … $2.5 billion
    5. Semiconductors … $1.9 billion
    6. Other industrial equipment … $1.6 billion
    7. Other chemicals … $1.5 billion
    8. Precious metals not gold … $1.4 billion
    9. Testing instruments … $1.4 billion
    10. Telecommunications … $1.3 billion

List is to long to copy but by eyeball except for civilian aircraft, machine tools, and pharmaceuticals, most of the rest seems to be raw materials. I suspect the machine tools are used to manufacture products for export.

Did I say business itself was the biggest threat to "America"? No, I said it is a threat to the "family". Business leaders are very capable of making a profit, getting bailed out when they act irresponsibly, and wrecking the family, all at the same time.

Still, I support capitalism. Looking at Europe, I see capitalist nations with respect for working moms. Remember, those ladies are not going back home to stay pregnant! Heck, half of all physicians and lawyers and college grads are female, if I'm not mistaken.

Every group wants its opponents to be extremists, so it can avoid the crucial points. Priests who want to be supported by the US Treasury want those opposed to this socialization of religion to be anti-Catholic. Zionists who want Israel to have a free hand and subsidies from Uncle Sam want all their opponents to be anti-Semites. Likewise, the most cold-hearted of business leaders want those who witness against them to be socialists.

I'm not accusing YOU of this.

No, capitalism is fine. However, American business is like a sub-culture. It has run the family into the ground. Were we to travel back to the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution, in England, people would say, "Of course! Those owners undermine the family by hiring the children and mothers rather than the fathers. Then, they work people excessive hours, detracting from family time."

Unions and activists got rid of child labor and gave us the 8 hour day, and were opposed by business every inch of the way. Today, they want women in the workplace, but only if they act as if they are men, stay on birth control, and never have children.
