The Bible says that in the las days people will be lovers of themselves in 2 Tim 3. I think that FB & Twitter are a fulfillment of that prophecy. FB, Twitter, and YouTube also advocate an anti-intellectual spirit. How many these days are interested in reading deep theology books? Only a few. How widely accepted are self-help sermons, and books? Everywhere.

I have tried many times to get intellectual conversation going on FB and have failed many times, so I come to these kinds of message boards, as at least the people here are interested in the Word of God. It seems that popular posts are funny, humorous, and virtually no theological substance. I tell you its all a fulfillment of prophecy. People these days do not even use the Bible as their reference point anymore, but always point to feelings & experience (components of a culture of relativism, postmodernism, mysticism, and sensationalism). I tell you its only going to get worse!

I think the OP is a bit of a stretch in the prophecy department.

I seriously doubt that God was pointing to Facebook or twitter as a way to see it.

The Bible also says the last days were occurring at the time of Jesus.

evangelist6589, to some it's one big ha-ha joke.

I really doubt our Lord was making specific reference to social media...., but then again, perhaps He was. Who knows? Only those sitting on His right hand what post on this forum know for sure.

As far as people being lovers of themselves that can be traced back to being kicked out of the garden. For sure, that's not a new trend but does reflect the depravity facing mankind. Social media is just a tool to further that individual agenda.

Quite clearly, if you were trying to get intellectual conversation going on FaceBook you might as well try right here on this forum. ...often, 'bout the same results, no?

People that are lovers of themselves talk mainly about themselves, their opinions and observations, and their problems. They can do that anyplace, even on the BB.

That is true but I seriously doubt that the passage is speaking about that.
    God says this;
    John 14:15
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

If a person is a lover of self more then a lover of God they are doing their own thing. The things that please them instead of doing the things that please God which is keeping His commandments.
True believers have their heart, mind, and soul, set on keeping His commandments while lovers of self have their heart mind and soul set on doing what pleases them.

2 Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
It also says that "knowledge shall increase."
Christ also says "When I come will I find faith?"

    More knowledge; but less truth.
    Greater knowledge; but less faith.

Makes me want to write a piece on the Eschatological Fulfillment of Facebook for Hyperdispensationalism.

The Bible still states the last days were at the time of Jesus.

I have a facebook account to keep up with my siblings, and extended family. I read the Bible daily, take notes during each sermon, read theological books all the time, and discuss theology with others at church constantly. My rate of going to facebook is probably less than average, but do not see the connection between a facebook account and end times.

While there is only one "correct interpretation" of prophecy, there may be many "good applications" of a passage.

The spirit of this age (including the narcissism of some social media) is certainly such an application.

But as for men being "lovers of self" more than God? That is fulfilled every day since Eden

That is true. And the disciples were also expecting Christ to establish his kingdom at that time. However, Jesus gave some signs of the times that he would establish his kingdom tied in with his coming. One of those signs was an increase in earthquakes which we see now as never before in history, as evidenced in Italy. Buildings that have stood for centuries have been damaged. Not only have they increased, they have hit with greater severity all over this world.

Why would the Disciples expect that?
