I have no idea how a piece of garbage like this becomes a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Aside from the hate, he curses during a sermon in the house of God. Actually, inside that fence would be a great place for him.

However, the reason I do not like hierarchies is that they are made up of men that are flawed humans just like the men of a local congregation. There is nothing wise about them compared to spiritually mature members of a local congregation. I grew up in such a denomination, and in more cases than not, elders, and presbyters are elected on the basis of social status instead of spiritual maturity. Elder rule becomes elder worship.

Now, I do not know why the members of this local church tolerate such a nut case, but a simple vote would put him on the street. If this lame
brain cannot be gotten rid of because this is one of those Baptist churches he in essence owns and started as an independent, then the members can transfer their membership to other local churches that take the Gospel seriously. If everyone will do that, then he can spew his hate to a mirror.

Catholic churches are the LEAST autonomous, and look at the "garbage" and "filth" in the clergy there.

No denominational structure/authority will stop perverts and vile "Eli's sons" from preying when they ought to be praying.

Proof of the depth of depravity of man's heart.

Oh, dont take my "wish we were automamous" comment seriously. It was just a flustered way of articulating my complete disgust for friutcakes like this guy, the nuts out in Westboro KS, etc etc.

The harm they cause for evangelical christianity can not be calculated.

Actually, he is somewhat in line with what the OT treatment would be, but just elongating the process.

It is true that the more believers accept the lies of the pervert the more the lies will seem to become reasonable and even truthful.

Certainly, I do not consider his approach or how he used certain words edifying, but the revulsion over the acceptance of the perverted lifestyle is certainly understandable.

Personally, I consider this issue one of the cues to God's drawing down the final curtain on humankind.

Rather than ridicule the messenger, if there is to be a problem, then disagree with what the premiss of his statements. Was he preaching what was not already found in the Word of God? How is God going to deal with the topic? Is God less incensed by the perverted condition that His wrath is less toxic?

Would I sit under this preacher's ministry? Probably not, but if I had to make a decision on he or some hoity toity pansy who was afraid to draw distinct character images for fear of loosing some popular vote, this preacher would get the vote.

I do not believe that what he said was preaching. It was more of a personal rant and not helpful in articulating the Word of God. But I believe that part is the worst of it. His explanation of what he would like to see done with them is poor taste at worst. This was not a message from God, but it is not disgusting either. No one has any expectation that anyone wanted to actually see that happen. But the blogger that snipped this seems to be more worried about social justice and attaching the name of Jesus to it than anything else.

    It was innapropriate and disgusting.

Because I once was kindof a 'fundamentalist' I might agree with you. I would never have thought that such speech was literal. However, if I were part of his congregation, such a public thought experiment would be completely unacceptable. It might have been the case that the audience was made up of adults only but I would not want my child to have to consider this from the preacher:
"Can you imagine kissing some man?..." [long pause... pleanty of time to attempt such an event] and then what a great followup line, "...My God, I love you fellers." (lol).

I would not want him to represent me or my beliefs. I would not want my unchurched friends, family, neighbors to think that I would be okay with such a moronic presentation.

I don't think this is sinister, it's just foolish. Foolish can be dangerous though.

Many thanks to the OP for the link... it's been a while since I heard some genuine fundamentalist preachin'! ;-)

I don't know, sounds like he's just talking off the cuff, nothing any more extreme then others have already said. And by the sounds of the amens, there was plenty of support for what he was saying. More then anything he sounds frustrated to me. The world is changing, he doesn't like the direction, believes it to be an affront to God and some of that frustration got away from him.

Sound he apologize for using such an extreme example? Yes, gay or straight these are human beings that God loves.
Should he apologize for being frustrated? Probably, but I think we have all said things we shouldn't have when frustrated.
Should he apologize for believing like he does about homosexuality. No.
Should he apologize for pastoring a church that clearly believes as he does? No. Should we leave him alone? Yes, back him and the church into a corner and you're likely to get something else that really is unnecessary.

I really like your posts and understand what you are saying. Your heart is in the right place. Where I disagree is that this person is leaving out the element of forgiveness, becoming a Christian, and allowing the Lord to mold this soul into a mature Christian. This preacher is suppose to be a leader reaching out to a lost world for Jesus. This type of hatred, venom, and cursing serves no purpose other than to repel a lost soul and seal their eternal destiny in hell.

I would not serve under a pastor like this, and this nonsense would not be welcome in our local church.
