Your favorite books on Biblical Discernment & Apologetics and why?

    What is yours and why? Please no replies saying the Bible, as this is not the answer to the question I have asked. Books need to be tested by the word of God, but books are writings of teachers whom have been given to the church to teach the saints. If in doubt read the books of Romans, and Ephesians to learn about spiritual gifts.

    Mine is Who are you to Judge by Erwin Lutzer. I prefer it as its very very practical. MacArthur's book Reckless Faith seems more of a read someone would do in seminary and it is not very practical. My favorite survey of false religions and cults book is So whats the Difference? Its more detailed than most websites & blogs, but not too technical and detailed. The book is very compact and about as thick as the Lutzer book I mentioned. I have recommended both books to many.

    The Tragedy of Compromise by Ernest Pickering is a no holds barred expose of churches and people that have not made a strong stand for the truth!

    Tim Challies wrote a book on Discernment which is excellent and shows how we are to judge truth and error.

    It's hard to say one particular book, because many of them deal with different topics: One of my favourites because it takes on relativism head on is "Relativism, feet planted firmly in mid-air" by Koukl and Beckwith. Also, due to the timeliness of it: I also like "Is God a Moral Monster" by Paul Copan <-- although he does play a little fast and loose with exegesis at one point). All time classic? 'Mere Christianity' by C.S. Lewis.

    Pickering, how is that discernment? I thought that would be a church history book?

    If you have not read Mere Christianity then you should turn off your computer and go find it immediately. There is no need in even starting to answer this question until that book is finished.

    Guide To Spiritual Warfare by E. M. BOUNDS is probably the best book I have read that exposes the subtlety of how Satan works and is now working. Although the book was written many years ago it is as though it were written 20 minutes ago.
