    Am I the only one who detests living in the same place for more than a few years?

    No matter how much I like (or dislike) a place, the moving bug always hits hard around the third year.

    Waking up every day to the same sights, same places, same stores, knowing the weather patterns and seeing the same sunrises and sunsets and clouds...it all gets too familiar and boring, even if I really enjoy the area. (although no, I have no fond feelings for the area I'm in now but would still feel the same if I did)

    Lay out a map, close your eyes, point, open them to see where you're moving next.

    I can't be the only one with the tendency to wander. Some people call it a vagabond lifestyle but that bugs me because it implies the person doesn't want to work and can't fit in, rather than just seeing it as a different way of wanting to live and explore the world around us.

    Anyone ready to admit or am I really just that rare a breed? :wavey:

    You are a rare breed. LOL

    Since I got married 27 years ago, we've lived in 2 places. We were in our first house for 6.5 years and this October, we will be here 21 years. :)

    Rare indeed!!!

    We have lived here for 40 years and no plans to move. That is not to say we didn't see many, many places all over the world.

    See, that's the thing.

    I hate traveling. LOL If I go somewhere, I want to soak it in, not just visit and run, and it doesn't seem like one can really experience the reality of a place in just a few days or weeks anymore than one could from pictures or a tv show.

    I'll just have to embrace my oddness. LOL But one day, somehow, I will find another BB member that feels the same. And when that day comes, I promise by all that is in me, I will look them right in the posting name and say "hey. how are ya?" :tongue3:

    Thanks in large part to Uncle Sam's travel agency (i.e., the USAF/ANG) I've been to a lot of places from San Francisco (at the height of hippy-dom in 1967) to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia (at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003) and from Iceland (2003) and the US Virgin Islands (1991).

    OTOH, I've really only lived for any length of time in PA (suburban Philly, 1946-1964 & 1969-1972), TX (if USAF Basic Training counts in 1964), IL (USAF Tech Training in 1965), AZ (USAF 1st PCS, 1965-67), [West] Germany (USAF 2d PCS, 1967-69), MS (ANG Tech Training in 1989), and TN (1972-1995 in Clarksville and 1995-present in Nashville).

    Unless the Lord decides to move this 66 YO person somewhere else, I'll probably stay right here in good old UCLA (Upper Corner of Lower Antioch!!! :laugh:) until the Lord calls me to my real Permanent Address in heaven!

    All through my childhood, we moved on the average of every three months; my grandmother did the same thing. There were very few school years I spent the whole year in the same school. Most of my life was in the same city but more homes than I can remember. High school was the only time I spent more than half a school year in the same school. We lived in some nice homes and twice in the country. I LOVED the country as a child and teen, but now I don't like being so far from everything.

    Because of that childhood, I like to stay as long as possible at the same place--until circumstances beyond my control force me to move.

    yep, you're an odd duckling, Gina! ;)

    When I moved in this house almost 13 years ago, I told my husband I wasn't moving again. Now, I would like a bigger house, but I still haven't convinced myself that more space is worth the moving!!! (and I had movers to do most of the work last time!) Maybe we'll just add on...... :D

    While in the Army for 15 years - I moved an average of every 18 months. After my discharge, I moved about 11 times in 15 years. Since I got married (in '03) we rented an apt for 7 years; 2 years ago we bought a house trailer - now we don't want to really move again - but we may buy a bigger trailer - and put it on the same lot!
