    Quoting the WSJ:

"The U.S. has held manufacturing wages in check while there has been strong wage growth in China and moderate wage growth in Mexico," says economist Gordon Hanson of the University of California, San Diego, referring to two of the U.S.'s biggest lower-wage competitors."

What happens when Chinese wages rise $5/hour and US wages drop another $5/hour? What happens to US workers? YOU TELL ME FIRST.

Don't know. But I know the only way to stop it is to get rid of the unions, and silly industry killing regulation.

I don't think we need to get rid of unions but they do need to be held in check in the same way businesses are. They are just as or more corrupt that any big business. Only a fool puts their blind allegiance in them.

Also how much higher can wages go? Are wages unlimited without any negative repercussions?

When I say "get rid of" I just meant mandatory unionization, of course. When every state becomes a right to work state, wages will go up.

    >When every state becomes a right to work state, wages will go up.

Why will wages go up? The point of the essay is that there is no need for employers to share profits.

Unions artificially drive up wages, and then take a huge chunk of those wages for "union dues." The companies are then encouraged to take their business to China, which causes the number of available workers in China to drop, which then causes their wages to go up over there.

Eh...I'm not a fan of unions, but unions aren't the problem here. Greed is the problem.

John Stossel's article this week is about improving life for workers, with competition from overseas. Thought to post from it, as I though he made good points about unions and businesses. The column is worth reading.

I wonder what would happen if the states and the feds started levying taxes on the unions the same way they tax businesses??

As I recall, my union dues were less than 5% of my pay and worth every cent.
