For the Pastors that only draw income from a Church; were you lead by God to become a Pastor or was this your Career choice?

Also, awhile back I contended that the Pastor's salary should be at a median level of the church they sheppard. I received some replies to that post essentially stating 'You need to pay for the talent of a Pastor'.

I've been pondering over those replies for some time and would like to pose a question for those that share this thinking. What would be too much to have to pay and why would you want someone to lead you if they're willing to leave that church for more money?

I know for hubby that it was a calling. His career was software engineering. He certainly doesn't make half of what he made in his career so it HAD to be a calling! LOL

Same for me...I left a career in "information technologies" to serve as a pastor. It was definitely a calling. People at my place of employment questioned my sanity! And although my congregation is as generous as they can be, it isn't close to what I brought home in secular industry.

It is absolutely a calling for me - and I must do my best to be faithful.

It was a calling. When I was seven years old I was clearly called by God to the ministry.

Salaries are subjective and often based on the kind of church you serve in, though not limited to that. Honestly that means a Pastor's salary is often dictated more by the size of the church than the "talent" of the Pastor in most cases I've seen.

This is highly subjective. For instance the pastor of a church in New York City would have to make significantly more than a pastor of a rural church in Idaho. These are hard questions. Not all contexts are equal. :)
