    Leaker-in-Chief

    Jun 18, 2012, Vol. 17, No. 38 • By LEE SMITH

    The Justice Department has launched an investigation into the White House’s handling of classified information. The spur seems to have been the June 1 New York Times article by David Sanger, sourced to current and former U.S. officials, revealing sensitive details about the Stuxnet and Flame computer worms and other parts of the Obama administration’s cyber campaign to disrupt and spy on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. By the way, none of the officials, according to Sanger, “would allow their names to be used because the effort remains highly classified, and parts of it continue to this day.”

    Last week, legislators on both sides of the aisle deplored the administration’s inability, or unwillingness, to keep national security secrets.

    SNIP

    The Obama administration can rightly claim the crown of laurels for killing Osama bin Laden—even if the program and personnel that brought down the al Qaeda chief were in place long before Obama came to office. But due credit was not enough for the Obama team. To craft a story about a heroic president and his leading part in American history, the administration rolled out the red carpet for moviemakers like Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow, and gorged the working press with details. It was this information that disclosed the role of a local doctor whose efforts on behalf of an American clandestine operation earned him a 33-year sentence in a Pakistani prison.

    That physician is not the only casualty of the White House’s vanity. The administration boasted of a mole who had infiltrated Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and helped thwart an attack against the United States. The man was working for British and Saudi intelligence and details of his role not only damaged the ongoing operations of allied intelligence services, but also put the lives of the agent and others at risk.

    Carpo, you just don't understand, then WH must do all they can to ensure we get four more years of the great and benevolent Barak. If a few clandestine operatives get whacked in the process, it is well worth having this great man lead us. :thumbsup:

    It's a crying shame and treasonous behavior to throw our allies under the bus and undermine our national security for his political gain. So evil. Even Diane Feinstein (Democrat) is upset. This narcissist and Enemy of the State needs to go. Let's send him packing.

    Secrets ARE the problem. Bible teaches that deeds done in the dark are evil. Evil can't tolerate light and loves dark secrets.

    You think so?

    How about proving your convictions about this line of thinking and post for us your address, phone number, social security number and bank account numbers - and your monther's maiden name while you're at it?

    Why all the secrecy?

    So I guess you are okay with that Pakistani doctor getting 33 years in a Pakistani prison? It seems you are pretty okay with anything obama or his administration does.

    So, okay, if secrets are the problem, then we should be in agreement that obama should show us his original birth certificate and college transcripts and who paid for his Harvard education.....

    >So I guess you are okay with that Pakistani doctor getting 33 years in a Pakistani prison?

    I have no opinion. It is not important to me.

    > It seems you are pretty okay with anything obama or his administration does.

    I am very disappointed in Obama. There was an outside chance he had not completely sold out but I should have known better.

    >So, okay, if secrets are the problem, then we should be in agreement that obama should show us his original birth certificate and college transcripts and who paid for his Harvard education.....

    For what purpose? Any revealing should be across the board.

    Uh huh.

    Democrats moved mountains to find something on Bush and Cheney for Valerie Plame's name getting out, even though it was public knowledge she worked for the CIA.

    Most of them don't seem very interest in investigating a leak by the Obama administration that actually endangered lives and put one known source in prison.

    FLASHBACK . . .

    Bush administration officials unmasked Valerie Plame as a CIA agent in 2003 after her husband, a U.S. ambassador, produced a report critical of their claims that Iraq was trying to get uranium from Niger, evidence that they used to build support for the Iraq war. Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, was later convicted of four counts of perjury, lying to an FBI agent, and obstructing a federal investigation for his role in the leak.

    But as the Plame case unfolded, many Republicans now calling for administration heads accused Democrats of playing politics and conducting an unwarranted witch hunt. They urged at the time that Bush administration officials be given the benefit of doubt.

    <snip>

    When the tables were turned, Democrats were just as vigorous as the GOP is now in demanding answers.

    SOURCE

    I remember that. The blame game.

    Well, at least it'll take our minds off our real national security crisis for a minute. What's the real national security crisis? We're training, arming and funding "Al Qaeda" and other muslim extremist murderers to do the dirty work of regime change.

    Ah, yes, poncho, I remember. But the outing of Valerie Plame did not put our nation's security and that of our allies at risk. As you pointed out, people ended up being charged with crimes. It was then Senator obama and Senator Biden that called for an independent investigator/counsel about Valerie Plame. This time, it is not just Republicans wanting a thorough investigation, the outrage is bipartisan, (Diane Feinstein for one).

    Now obama doesn't want an independent investigator, just people who answer to corrupt Eric Holder. This administration is wicked. These leaks are really putting people's lives at risk and our national security at risk. This is treason of the highest order, a HIGH CRIME. Grounds for impeachment.

    The outing of Plame was not a crime since she was no longer a covert agent. Actually her big mouth husband outed her and that fat State Dept. guy confirmed it! What jerks both are!

    As for Libby put anyone before a grand jury 6 times and you will find a discrepancy!

    The prosecutor had already determined that there had been no crime before the grand jury was even enpaneled.

    His whole strategy was to get perjury convictions by repeatedly questioning witnesses until he got a discrepancy so he could get some sort of conviction.

    It was nothing but political.

    I disagree. I say these leaks are helping to prove what a sham the "war on terror" really is. Whoever is leaking this stuff ought to get a medal.

    Is Obama a criminal? Yes he is! Does he need to be investigated for many things besides "leaking"? Yes he does! Will it ever happen? I highly doubt it.

    He and his administration have been acting as if the law isn't binding on them and after watching Bush and Obama both act like that I'm starting to think maybe they're right.

    All any of these critters (politicians) have to do when they get in trouble is claim the other side is going after them for political reasons and all the evidence against them is "state secret classified". They'll sing and dance and put on a big show and after awhile the public calms down and forgets all about it.

    It's like watching the same video over and over and over.

    Anyway where's your evidence that proves he's the leaker? If you're going to go after him for something go after him for something that is easily proven. The man started an illegal war and has informed the congress of the United States that we go to war on the UN's authority now.

    Now that is a HIGH CRIME! Inmho of course. :flower:

    Why Leaking Is a Lesser Crime Than Waging Unconstitutional Wars

    And how base our culture has become when the hunt for truth tellers is more compelling than the cessation of unlawful government killing.

    If you are still listening to those in the political class who are falling over each other to condemn leaks from the government to the media, you'd think the leaks had revealed private information in which the public has no legitimate interest, or perhaps a planned secret government mission to rescue innocents. Neither is the case.

    <snip>

    So, who has violated the Constitution and federal law, who has caused more harm and who has performed more of a disservice to the nation: those who leaked the truth to the media, or the president, who caused death and destruction among those he hates and fears?

    We already know the basic facts, as the White House has denied none of this. The president meets every Tuesday morning with a select group of military, intelligence, national security and, occasionally, political advisers and reviews the background and photos of persons in foreign countries whom he hates or fears, some of whom are Americans. He then personally decides whom among them to kill. Then he dispatches civilian agents of the government, no doubt the CIA, to do the killing using drones. He uses the CIA to do this because if he used the military, federal law requires public reporting of that use and, eventually, congressional approval. Some of the killings have taken place in Yemen, a country that has welcomed them, and some in Pakistan, a country that has condemned them. We are at war with neither.

    <snip>

    The president is evading federal law on the use of the military by having the now-paramilitary CIA kill people in foreign countries with drones and disrupt a foreign population with a cyber-war. And he is violating the Constitution and federal law by starting wars on his own. But the loudest and most sanctimonious of politicians are not demanding that the president follow the Constitution and the laws he has sworn to uphold. Rather, they are demanding to know who told the media about the president's war making.

    Which is ultimately more harmful to freedom: that the president on his own kills and maims and destroys, or that some people in our own government who have greater fidelity to the Constitution than loyalty to an out-of-control presidency -- and who are protected by law when they reveal government crimes -- tell us what the president is up to? What kind of politicians complain about truthful revelations of unconstitutional behavior by the government, but not about death and destruction, and, let's face it, criminal abuse of power by the president? Only cynical power-hungry politicians who have disdain for the Constitution they have sworn to uphold could do this with a straight face.

    <snip>

    How base our culture has become when the hunt for truth tellers is more compelling than the cessation of unlawful government killing. If the president can fight private wars and start public ones on his own, and the public is induced to focus on those who have told us what he is doing and not on his misdeeds themselves, and Congress remains a potted plant or willing dupe, the president can get away with anything.

    CONTINUE . . .
