It has been more than three years since we've seen a movie in a theater. My wife and I decided that due to the extreme liberal stand by so many stars on the big screen, we were not going to provide them a portion of our hard-earned money to spend on progressive/tolerant causes, or, to fund Obama's re-election.

The star who angered me with his anti-America stance is Johhny Depp [who chooses to live in France because he thinks is America is so bad] and foul, vile spewing Russell Brand. Then's there're Alex Baldwin, and George Clooney, James Brolin. I could go on, but today's stars are so liberal minded, and they use the dais given them by their star status their opinions openly and hereas, the average American, who goes to the movie and pays their bills, does not have the same opportunity to voice their opinion on the equivalent public dais a star has.

What are your thoughts on this??? :wavey:

I go to the movies to support one thing; a healthy relationship with my wife, kids or friends (depending on who I go with).

What operating system do you use on your computer(s)? Microsoft? Pretty liberal company according Free Republic. Do you use Google search engine? Again, labeled pretty liberal by Free Republic. Do you or your wife shop at Bed Bath and Beyond? Again; labeled Liberal by Free Republic.

Throughout society in one form or fashion your dollars will go in a direction you'd rather not have them. At some point you've got to be realistic.......

I'm not supporting them on Netflix and barely supporting them at the box office. I average about one movie per year. I've seen Star Trek, Wall-E, and Mission Impossible in the past three years. I suppose I will go to the new James Bond movie this Thanksgiving.

I don't use Netflix, I use Redbox a few times a year ($1 per movie rental), otherwise I download classic movies or movies otherwise unavailable to rent or buy at no cost.

Still, I understand your point. I loathe supporting Hollywood with my dollars, even if it is less than $10 a year.

The last time I saw a movie in the theater, it was Atlas Shrugged. I doubt (but don't know for certain) that it was made by 'Hollywood liberals'.

    I Agree....

....however, with the movie stars, we actually know their stance on political issues and abortion [for one thing!]. Thanks for telling me about Bed. Bath and Beyond. I did not know that.

However, BBB does not use their potion in the community to prop up causes and presidents.

The book, Atlas Shrugged, was written by an atheist! The last movie I saw in the theater was "Hunt for Red October". That must be about 20-25 years ago.

So to clarify, are you saying that you had no problem with the last 50-75 years of hollywood movies portraying misogynistic belittling of women and celebrating sex outside of marraige, but now that you've discovered they support democrats you refuse to go?

I agree. I am not helping support their lies and attacks against the truth.

It is still a free country but if Ayn Rand had her way I am not sure it would be.

Whittaker Chambers, reformed Communist and onetime associate editor of the National Review, in a famous review of Atlas Shrugged read Miss Ayn Rand, the author, completely out of the Conservative movement. "Out of a lifetime of reading," Chambers wrote, "I can recall no other book in which the tone of overriding arrogance was so implacably sustained."

You know, everyone has an off switch and a channel changer. The off button is the only way I know to shut Rush Limbaugh up.

Amen to that. It ought to be a law, also.

In what way? Unless I missed something, though philosophically-speaking she was a screwball, she believed:

"The proper functions of a government fall into three broad categories, all of them involving the issues of physical force and the protection of men’s rights: the police, to protect men from criminals—the armed services, to protect men from foreign invaders —the law courts, to settle disputes among men according to objective laws. - “The Nature of Government,” from The Virtue of Selfishness by Ayn Rand.

    A few more quotes:

“A government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims.”

" Government “help” to business is just as disastrous as government persecution… the only way a government can be of service to national prosperity is by keeping its hands off."

" The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals … it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government … it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen’s protection against the government."

" The smallest minority on earth is the individual. Those who deny individual rights cannot claim to be defenders of minorities."

As for Chambes' book review, I believe it was just that- a book review.

After having read all of Rand's significant texts (The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged, and Anthem) for a Master's course I was deeply troubled by her philosophical objectivist bent. While there are certainly things I agree with in her, specifically from a broader political theological perspective, the amoralism of her position disqualifies her from reasonable appropriation in Christian circles imho.

Now, as for the OP: its a red herring, sort of like asking me "When did you stop beating your wife?", I watch lots of movies and enjoy good tv shows. I'm not aiding the liberal establishment by doing so and reject anyone who suggest I am. Come on folks, there's a big ole world out there that is enjoyable if you get off your duff and go out into it. Last weekend I saw The Avengers and Snow White and Huntsman and had a great time. :)

    Exactly
You can go and live in a cave but somewhere you would somehow support some liberal or immoral cause.
