and food prices will rise. White folk don't want to pluck chickens for The Colonel.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/local...consequences/2012/06/17/gJQA3Rm0jV_story.html

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. — Hidden behind the Banco del Sol and the Tienda El Nino is the economic pillar of this rural town: A massive factory that processes 130,000 chickens a day. Inside, headless plucked birds move along conveyor belts while 300 workers, in repeated deft strokes, slice each passing carcass into chunks of kitchen-ready meat.

For years, most poultry workers here were Mexican immigrants, including some who were in the country illegally. But last fall, after a tough state law against illegal immigrants took effect, many vanished overnight, rattling the town’s large Hispanic community and leaving the poultry business scrambling to find workers willing to stand for hours in a wet, chilly room, cutting up dead chickens.

“Even someone born and raised in Albertville may not have the necessary skills or be able to pass a background check,” said Frank Singleton, a spokesman for Wayne Farms, which owns the slaughterhouse. The firm held a job fair that attracted about 250 local residents, but few were hired, and some soon quit, daunted by the demanding work. Since the law took effect, he said, “our turnover rate has gone through the roof.”

Poultry processing plants are miserable places to work. I had neighbors when I was a kid who worked in one. After a few years all of them had deformed fingers and/or thumbs from the repetitive work. All suffered chronic pain in their hands.

There are many jobs that regular legal folk just will not take because of the demands of the job and the low pay.

This is the side of the immigration coin the Republicans and conservatives do not want to look at or acknowledge.

Most construction sites, at least in my area, could have to stop work if all illegals were thrown out. Our local newspaper did a lengthy investigation on what would happen if illegals were all forces out. It was amazing how many restaurants and companies would have to close up shop. It was not that illegals were taking jobs that 'legal' folk wanted. It was they could not find 'legal' folk who would take the jobs.

Again this is part of the issue conservatives refuse to address.

    Regular folk?

Sounds like typical liberal racism to me.

Liberals love to look down on different classes of people and pat themselves on the back for being so compassionate by allowing those lower classes to do low paid menial labor jobs.

None of that answers my question. Prove that "This is the side of the immigration coin the Republicans and conservatives do not want to look at or acknowledge. "

What you posted does not even come close to the subject. So now try again, Prove your accusation with clear acknowledgement of your statement.

Show me any place where any Republican or conservative, who has been screaming about illegal aliens, has pointed out that their being here has held prices down. They scream about jobs being taken, but it is well documented that in some areas this is not true as regular folk will not take the jobs.

This is not unique to the US. In Costa Rica it is readily acknowledged that if the aliens from other Central American countries were forced to leave the coffee industry would collapse as Costa Ricaians will not accept jobs picking coffee beans.

If $75 million dollars in crops is left to rot in the fields, and that was just Georgia, because workers could not be found as a result of their new, tough illegal alien bills ... do you really believe that had no impact on prices. Multiply that by the entire 50 states and consider the consequences.

So, you do not want illegal aliens. How much more are you willing to pay at a restaurant to have a legal cook? 10%, 20%.

I have yet to see anyone on this board who screams about illegal aliens mention the negative consequences of all of them leaving.

Do you want to mention any negative consequences?

And having them here illegally only causes more problems that it may solve. Ignoring the problems is causes is not the answer. Regardless of employment issue and more importantly we need to know who is coming in, what their background is and why they want to be here. That is more important than their poverty issues and our labor issues.

I might agree with you ... if you would list the problems you have in mind.
I agree, ignoring problems is not a good policy. But neither is ignoring the benefits.

[quout]Regardless of employment issue and more importantly we need to know who is coming in, what their background is and why they want to be here. That is more important than their poverty issues and our labor issues.[/QUOTE]

That would be rather hard to know if they are coming illegally.

An interesting article is in the June 12th issue of Time magazine entitled, Not Legal Not Leaving

The problems are the dangers to American lives. It is and can be an avenue for terrorists. The border needs to be shut down.

Just by the fact they are willing to ignore the laws of our country is enough reason to be concerned and is far more important than their poverty or the employment issues. Allowing those who ignores our laws are dangerous because they do not respect the laws. They already have a proven track record.

The benefits are not being ignored. They pale in comparison.

    My point exactly.

I don't care what Time Magazine says. Might as well read the enquirer.

No, this is the side of the welfare coin that liberals do not want to look at or acknowledge. Kill two birds by getting rid of illegals and the unnecessary parts of welfare. Then, the lazy bums who are mooching off the government will take those jobs, lowering the unemployment rate.

This is a very good point. Anyone coming in illegally has no respect for our laws.

No, it shows that the illegals want honest work at higher than Mexican wages.

    > These terrorists must be to stupid to be dangerous. Give me six terrorists, three cars, and I could burn California to the ground in 24 hours.

And you are completely in favor of the "trash" doing the work for less than minimum wage.

Republican immigration policy was to grant them amnesty, ala Ronald Reagan, 1986.

Is it just me, or is this a racist statement?

Question - did Reagan do that by Executive order, or did Congress pass the bill. And if it was Congress was it R or D or split?
