To this day I am still not clear on this subject.
I've asked long ago this here but the answers were not convincing

If a christian goes to heaven when he or she dies,
then WHO are these "dead in Christ" who will rise first at his next coming?

Some say that the souls of christians go to heaven but their bodies remain on the ground, and that these are the physical bodies that will be resurrected.

    uhm....

Why would God resurrect these physical bodies? Why not simply give them a new heavenly body. Why He needs a chunk of dust to create a heavenly body?

Please, can anyone explain with Bible verses?

Dont christian's soul stay in paradise (a nice place next to hell) to wait for His next coming?

THe Bible says He will return with angels, but there is NO mention of believers coming with Him?

    What say you?

here are some verses for you:
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation
49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Chapter 31: Of the State of Man after Death and Of the Resurrection of the Dead
1._____ The bodies of men after death return to dust, and see corruption; but their souls, which neither die nor sleep, having an immortal subsistence, immediately return to God who gave them. The souls of the righteous being then made perfect in holiness, are received into paradise, where they are with Christ, and behold the face of God in light and glory, waiting for the full redemption of their bodies; and the souls of the wicked are cast into hell; where they remain in torment and utter darkness, reserved to the judgment of the great day; besides these two places, for souls separated from their bodies, the Scripture acknowledgeth none.
    ( Genesis 3:19; Acts 13:36; Ecclesiastes 12:7; Luke 23:43; 2 Corinthians 5:1, 6,8; Philippians 1:23; Hebrews 12:23; Jude 6, 7; 1 Peter 3:19; Luke 16:23, 24 )
2._____ At the last day, such of the saints as are found alive, shall not sleep, but be changed; and all the dead shall be raised up with the selfsame bodies, and none other; although with different qualities, which shall be united again to their souls forever.
    ( 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:17; Job 19:26, 27; 1 Corinthians 15:42, 43 )

3._____ The bodies of the unjust shall, by the power of Christ, be raised to dishonour; the bodies of the just, by his Spirit, unto honour, and be made conformable to his own glorious body.
    ( Acts 24:15; John 5:28, 29; Philippians 3:21 )

The dead in Christ are believers who died. They will rise first.

    Jprieto;
The Bible says absent from the body present with the Lord.2Co 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2Co 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. There is no living spirit with in a dead body. The ressurection of the body means the renewing of the flesh. The spirit is with Christ.MB

1 Thessalonians 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The bodies of the deceased believers (dead in Christ) are sleeping in the graves, but their spirits are with the Savior in Heaven. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 says that when Christ returns for His church, He will bring with Him the dead saints (dead in Christ) to receive their resurrection bodies (vs. 14).

    Yep. Dead BODIES

Today, regenerated folks' souls are with the Lord in temporary bodies, sort of like "holding patterns".

But we groan and await the final resurrection and our fleshly bodies that have not yet been changed will be 'metamorphisized' into incorruptible bodies we will have for eternity - like Jesus had when He appeared following the resurrection.

Think of YOU as 3-parts and salvation as 3-parts.

My soul WAS saved and changed and old nature done away.

My mind IS BEING saved and changed, renewed in the Word and becoming more like Christ (and less of my stinkin' thinkin')

My body WILL BE saved and changed, every cell, into a perfect eternal body.

I wonder about those who got cremated

how will their bodies be resurrected at His next coming?

and those who had their ashes scattered on the sea.

-- I wonder even more if this is a silly question on my part (most likely it is)

God knows the pattern he used to make each one of us...

What would be harder, recreating a body from nothing, or an entire universe from nothing?
