Published late 2011. Editor is N.T Wright. Any one read some/all of it? From the back cover --
Most readers of the New Testament have grown overly familiar with the biblical text, losing sight of the wonder and breadth of its innovative ideas and world-changing teachings about the life and role of Jesus of Nazareth. N. T. Wright invigorates these sacred texts with an all-new English translation that allows contemporary readers to encounter these historic works afresh.

Will he be 'forcing" the translation to reflect his views on pauline theology, Isreal, and the Church/Kingdom?

Well, there is reason enough not to waste money on this one.

The Word of God is powerful, alive, and effective.....God does not need our gimmicks.

BTW, the premise that people are too familiar with Scripture, well, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. It seems at every turn I find people who suffer from biblical illiteracy. They have more idea of what's happening on American Idol than they do about the Sermon on the Mount.

I am someone else's home recovering from surgery. But I wanted to say that a few months back I read it through as a library book. I took notes and the notes aren't with me.

There are some objectionable renderings. I especially don't like the fact that he normally doesn't like to use the wording of eternal life or everlasting life. He renders it usually as life to come or in the new age.

I am with Carson,Packer and Piper etc. regarding his incorrect view of the so-called New Perspective.

I have quibbles with other wrong-headed renderings here and there. But for the most part it is a solid translation. If he could possibly be persuaded to change some of his renderings to a more orthodox position I would say that his translation would be an asset to the Kingdom! :) It's that good.

guess that he proves, once again, better to have a commitee translate the Bible, and not just one person?

That doesn't always work out so well either.

There have been some excellent one-man Bible translations. At least as far as the New Testament goes. weymouth comes to mind. and the prime example would be William Tyndfale. The Jacobean "translation" team barely edited W.T's work and added their stylistic flourishes.

6:20 : You were quite an expensive purchase!
7:9 : than to have desire smoldering away inside you
    11:22 : I shan't
15:8 : as to one ripped from the womb
15:39 : Not all physical objects have the same kind of physicality

    2 Corinthians

    1:17 : Was I just fooling around
2:5 : (I don't want to emphasize this too much)
2:11 : we shouldn't be outsmarted by the satan. We know what he's up to!
4:18 : the things you can see are here today and gone tomorrow
6:1 : when you accept God's grace, don't let it go to waste!
6:12 : There are no restrictions at our end
    6:13 : That's fair enough,isn't it?
7:2 : Make room for us!
9:8 : And God is well able to lavish all his grace upon you.
10:7 : Look at what's in front of your face.
10:12 : That just shows how silly they are!
11:27 : I've burned the candle at both ends
    12:16 : maybe I was a trickster

    Snips From Romans

7:8 : But sin grabbed its opportunity
7:9 : sin sprang to life
8:19 : creation itself is on tiptoe with expectation
8:27 : the Searcher of hearts
12:9 : Love must be real
15:1 : We,the 'strong' ones, should bear with the frailty of the 'weak,'

I found the first 10 chapters in need of a more orthodox rewrite. Chapters 12-16 were excellent though.

9:2 : you are the authorized stamp of my apostleship in the Lord
    10:20 : I don't want you to be table-partners with demons
11:19 : that's how the genuine ones among you will stand out.
11:24 : Do this as a memorial of me.
    13:10 : with perfection,The partial is abolished

2:16 : Who can rise to this challenge?
4:16 : our outward humanity is decaying
5:5 : God who has given us the spirit as the first installment and guarantee

I found that chapters 1,2,4 and 7-13 were sound. The other chapters need slight amendments.

    10:23 : without being diverted

    11:25 : the short-term pleasures of sin
11:34 : sent foreign armies packing
12:12 : So stop letting your hands go slack

I found that I had very little correcting to do in this translation of the book of Hebrews.

By the way,I compared the readings in the New Testament (aside from the Gospels,I haven't had the time yet)with readings in the ESV about 60% of the time and the 2011 NIV for the other 40%.

    James

1:9 : Brothers and sisters who find themselves impoverished should celebrate the fact that they have risen to this height
1:11 : when the rich wither away in the midst of their busy lives.
1:15 : when sin reaches maturity it gives birth to death.
1:27 : prevent the world leaving its dirty smudges on you.
3:10 : My dear family,it isn't right that it should be like that.
5:5 : in the lap of luxury

I didn't have to do that many corrections in this translation of the book of James. I had to personally change 'God's justice' into the righteousness God requires in 1:20. Wright had "The tongue is a world of injustice," which I altered to : ...a world of unrighteousnes;things like that. Overall it was rather good.
