Hoping everyone of you and your families have a wonderful day as we remember the founding of this great nation the Lord gave us. Thank you to all who defended my right to express my thoughts on this board and elsewhere. We all owe you a debt that cannot be repaid.

    God bless the USA!!!!

FWIW, One of NJ's signers of the Declaration of Independence----John Hart---was (believe or not) A BAPTIST DEACON!!

Try looking up his biography & you'll probably come to the conclusion that, in the eyes of a few of our BB posters (trollers?), he wouldn't be welcomed here.

Moreover, when many of the signers of the Dec of Ind pledged "our Lives, our Fortunes, & Our Sacred Honor," they REALLY meant it.

A brief overview of what happened to some of them during our War for Independence would give you a little idea of that to which I'm referring.

Thanks for that post. One of the signers, Thomas Paine, is a direct ancestor on my Mom's side. You are correct, most have no idea what sacrifice for freedom really means beyond singing the Stars Spangled Banner.

"Spot on there, my friend" !!

It's a tired and worn out statement, but it still holds true today:

FREEDOM ISN'T FREE..... (Never has been....Never will be)

What hurts my friend, most don't care of the sacrifices that have been made for their and our freedom.

I had to write a semester paper on Thomas Paine. A man you could love at times and dislike at times. As close as he and Washington was Washington didn't even try to get him out of prison in France, where a letter from old George is all it would have taken.

Don't mean to disturb the hot air in here but . . .

    http://www.baptistboard.com/showthread.php?t=79796

in “freedom and democracy” america, the people have no voice and no rights and no representatives.

Yet, this huge deficit of democracy and liberty will pass unmentioned by July 4th orators.

Does our country have problems? Yes. Does our country have really BIG problems? Without a doubt.

Is our government a large part of all of our problems - albeit not the sum total of our problems? Of course, even a fool could see that.

But I LIKE taking this day - the 4th of July - and remembering the grand, hoping for the better, and reflecting on what it took for those to forge what was forged and to reflect with gratitude.

I don't deny half of what you say, but maybe part of your problem, Poncho, is that it's been far too long since you contemplated on anything with gratitude.

    That's what today is for.
