need some computer help, please

What operating system are you using?

 

If you are using a wireless mouse, have you checked the batteries?

Your mouse could also be worn out, we had a mouse that the left click stopped functioning, we had to purchase a new one.

Are you able to highlight, but when you right click get no menu?

Hard to say without being there, but this is what I would check first.

 

Try simply unplugging it, and then plugging it back in.

 

Since it sounds like you're mouse dependent, here's how to do it on your keyboard.

After you highlight it, press CTRL and the letter "c" on your keyboard to copy it. Press CTRL plus the letter "v" to paste it.

That's the way to do it without the mouse.

You may want to join a self-help group for your mouse addiction. :tongue3:

If all else fails, you could try a System Restore, go to Start, then Programs, then Accessories, click on System Tools, then click on System Restore. A box will pop up and ask if you want to restore your settings to an earlier time, click Next, a Calender will pop up, chose the most recent bolded date and click Next. It takes a few minutes to restore your old settings, then the computer will automatically shut off and turn back on again. It will ask you one final time if you want to restore your settings to that earlier date, click OK.

Hopefully you will have a very recent date you can select to restore to, if you pick a date that was months ago, you may lose some data or programs you have installed since.

This will not harm your computer, I have done it many times, it simply restores all your settings to an earlier time when everything was working properly.

Glad it worked. I am a hack, I am always messing with settings to try to improve computer speed, etc... Many times I make mistakes and my computer gets whacked out. I always go to System Restore.

Now that your computer is working good again, go to System Restore again, and this time click on "Save a restore point". This will save your current good settings. Give it a name you can remember and save it. Then if your computer gets messed up again, you can go back and remember this good saved configuration.

Try defragging hard drive, also try scanning computer with antivirus program
you could also try restoring to an earlyer date when there was no problem.
look at task bar find acesseries,click on acesseries,then system tools.
you will find several tools used in various maintenance tasks.
you can use clean up to remove unwanted files from the computer,but make sure you don't select any you want to keep.
after you are done cleaning the disk,you can then begin to defrag,or(defragment the hard drive)defrag for short.
after you have finnished the defraggmentation, you should see a bit more space on the hard drive,therefore speeding up functionality,and perhaps making room for the desired program to work ergo cut, copy,and paste

Just for grins and giggles - the thing I dislike most about Windows is that there's usually 3, if not 14, ways to do the same thing.

For example, copying:
Highlight with the mouse by dragging the cursor over the word or words to be copied; on the menu bar, choose Edit, then Copy.

Highlight with the mouse by dragging the cursor over the word or words to be copied; right-click, and choose Copy.

Highlight with the mouse by dragging the cursor over the word or words to be copied; hold the CTRL key and press C

Highlight with the mouse by double-clicking on the word to be copied; or triple-clicking on the sentence or section to be copied; then use Edit/Copy, Right-click/Copy, or CTRL + C.

Use the arrow keys to move the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to copy; hold the Shift key and use the arrow keys to highlight the text you want to copy; then use Edit/Copy, Right-click/Copy, or CTRL + C.


I'm sure there's about 3 more ways to do it, but I think that gets my point across.
