Good. America is a nation of diverse beliefs where all are able to follow the dictates of their conscience. The President does similar statements for Christmas, Yom Kippur, etc. Our freedom of religion is a legacy from the founding fathers that has made this nation great and benefitted all of us.

While I Agree With You [to an extent]....

...I believe this is one more glaring example of this country becoming TOO DIVERSE! Too tolerant! And too politically correct.

Islam is a radical religion [no matter what the PR spin may want us to bleieve], and if the POTUS can't see that, it is one more piece of evidence that supports voting him out of office in November.

Obama is selectively blind: He can't see much of anything. He fails to see that business owners were the ones who made their businesses successful. He fails to see that unemployment is not going away. He fails to recognize the truth that this nation is not rebounding from the "Depression." He fails to see that gay marriage should not become a WH talking point. He fails to see that he can't manage the war he said he'd win once he was in office. He can't see how illegal immigration is destroying the economy, morale and welfare of this nation and its citizens. He fails to see that Israel must remain our ally. He fails to see that while he bailed out the banks, the banks refuse to pass that goodwill on to the homeowners who are losing their homes, hand-over-fist!

He is blind to what is going on all around him, and his selctive blindness will result in his being voted out of office, or winning another term and making our recovery more difficult than it is if we elect a new POTUS this year.

Four more years of blind change will only serve to take us further down his path to socialism.

You all do know that President Bush hosted eight Ramadan dinners and praised the majority of Muslims as peace loving people?

    STORY

At one of the dinners he made note that he had brought the first copy of the Koran to the White House Library.

    HERE is his 2008 speech

Before him the Clintons observed and honoured Muslims.

It LOOKS LIKE President Jefferson also acknowledged Islam in the White House

So why is this a news event?

Our govt. is constitutionally charged with protecting us.. Allowing Islam to exist in this country is a violation of that constitution, in my opinion. How do you constitutionally allow an entity on your soil that by religious edict, swears to destroy you???

    Why the outcry now?

Will we be consistent and condemn every president who has done this?

The right of Muslims are protected by the same 1st Amendment that protects our rights. That has been recognised since the earliest days of the Republic. According to Benjamin Franklin's autobiography (LINK) regarding George Whitefileds' non-denominational meeting hall -

Will we condemn Franklin and Whitefield?

And did not the Treaty of Tripoli state in Article 11 (LINK)

    Sometimes freedom can be troublesome.

Yes, I rebuke any president or facilitator that applies our constitutional protections to enemies sworn to our destruction. Similar to the BO administration trying enemy combatants in civil court.. Just doesn't fit. Our safety comes first..

And I don't think I mentioned BO in this thread C4K..

If our safety pre-empts the Constitution why do we have a Constitution?

Muslims have always been protected by the First Amendment. Their religious liberties are clearly set out by historical precedent. I would be willing to fight and die for an American citizen Muslim to worship according to the dictates of his conscience.

Freedom is not freedom if it only applies to one segment of the population.

The safety of our people is at the top of the list of Governments constitutional responsibility.. Islam is a sworn enemy, and the protections afforded them individually, as citizens, would be superceeded by our safety concerns for all..

Simply: How do you allow sworn zealous killers of Christians, (actually, anyone not Muslim) acceptance on our soil? My point is that the Constitution was NOT designed for the world we live in today with Islam so vehemently active, and adhering to its tenets.

We passed the point long ago that Benjamin Franklin warned: Here's your constitution if you can keep it.. It (constitution) was inspired by Spirit filled Christians, for a Christian nation. Franklin knew that it had flaws that would only become apparent if Christianity were abandoned.. We began abandoning it early on, and today it really means little.. The Supreme Court just showed us that.

Obama is a Marxist! That explains much if not all of what he does. Marxism is totalitarian, Islam is totalitarian.

Obama has a real chance thanks to ramadan.

Here's what I mean: he can walk out in broad daylight and feast on a pulled pork sammich in front of the press. Upon completion of the pulled pork, he can say "I'm NOT a muslim, folks."

    Just a thought.

American Muslims are not "enemies sworn to our destruction". They are our fellow countrymen who are entitled to the Constitutional right to worship according to the dictates of their conscience.

Freedom of religion applies to ALL religions, not just one.

    Is Obama Muslim?

Does he mark religious days for every other religious holiday?

    Has he singled out Ramadan?

What special days of other religions does he not mark?

So, you would not be a constructionist? You think the Constitution should flex and adapt to suit the current climate? Traditionally that is a view only held by the left.

As posted above, Franklin was a firm believer in full religious freedom for all, including Muslims.

I don't want any part of an America that does not permit religious liberty for all. That would not be the United States that we all love.

Marking Christian things is common from the founding of this country. Outside of that picking a Muslim religion and no other out of the crowd is rather suspicious.

The Clintons started it in 96 and President Bush continued it all through both terms. It may be a new tradition but this is the 17th year that it has happened. President Obama has also marked Rosh Hashanah and probably Hannakuh, though I am not sure about Hannakuh.
