The fee is a convenience fee. It is free if you go in person, but to verify you are who you say you are from an online filing takes time and money. That is very cheap as it costs on average 60 dollars residential in Canada. It can be as low as 45 dollars and as high as 675 dollars depending on residential or business. So in all reality you got a deal.

Not trying to be smart here but my opinion is that the USPS needs to get on the ball and raise all their rates making those who use the service pay what it costs to maintain the business.

 

The main reason the USPS is in trouble is because Congress raided their funds just like Congress raided the Social Security fund.

 

It is a fee not a tax. Romney brags he did not raise taxes while he was the governor of Massachusetts. He raised lots of fees but, according to him, not taxes. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Proof of identity in order to forward mail would be a good thing.

How would you feel if some identity thief put in a forwarding address for you at the post office without your knowledge and than stole your mail?

 

What funds are you talking about? There is no system set aside for them like the Social Security program. They are constantly in the red, which is against the law, because of poor fiscal responsibility, and are constantly being bailed out with tax dollars through loans. They are suppose to pay it all back, but don't hold your breath.

But you said that congress was raiding the fund and that is simply not true. This is about another issue altogether.

 

Perhaps I should have bolded this sentence in what I posted:

That is what I said was wrong and gave the proof. There is nothing to raid. It is the government who is bailing them out not the other way around.

 

There are ugly rumors that the government is planning to raid the sheep's green pastures of the land of IRA (flowing with milk and honey) which according to some estimates is valued at 5 to 13 trillion dollars "safe and secure" squirreled away in the vaults of Vanguard, Fidelity, etc...

I hope that does not happen, but if that is what it takes to wake up the people to take back their government then so be it. I really think we are headed for a bloody mess against our own military much like in the Arab nations.

 

There are rumblings to the effect that the government is gearing up for that and it seems provable but I doubt it will be on a scale such as the Arab spring (I pray not).

IMO, these kinds of violent demonstrations (if any) will be local. The first indications may come when the DNC/RNC have their convention hooplahs in Charlotte (9/3/2012) and Tampa (8/27/2012) respectively.
