Does RCC have official bible version?

Yes the vulgate is official as is the New American Bible as is Catholic Revised Standard Version as is the Jerusalem Bible as is the Douay-Rhimes. Though the current liturgy includes the translation from the New American Bible. For its scripture readings.

 

Because I attend a church that only has the Tridentine Mass and is extremely conservative, the only bible used is the Douay-Rheims. Consequently, when the epistle and gospel are read....it is in Latin. Prior to the sermon, the epistle and gospel are read out in the common tongue of the area English in my case. Most folk have a missal with both side by side, the reading out aloud is for any who may not have a missal.

I use the Douay-Rheims revised by Bishop Challoner. When studying questions posed on the BB with 2 King James versions.

 

I use the Jerusalem bible for bible study and RCIA.

 

The Duoay-Rheims bible is a word for word English Translation of Jerome's Latin Vulgate. It's New Testament was published in 1582 a little before The King James bible which came out in 1611 but after the Geneva Bible came out in the 1560's. Note that the King James Bible was based on the Byzantine Greek Text Newly reconstructed by Erasimus called the Recieved Text which Interestingly enough the earliest texts he had dated to the 12th Century where as Jerome who knew both Hebrew and Greek relied on text much earlier and closer to the time of the Aposltes seeing that his translation came out in 405. Just an interesting tid bit.

 

I have used the Jerusalem Bible for 30 years. The poetry reads well and meaningful deviations from the KJV are obvious.

 

Could you explain? Why would you use a book which deviates from the bible?
