Wow and WOW. I thought the big gun stuff would start coming out in September. If this is small enough for August I wonder what is waiting in the wings for September and October?

Hey, remember Obama's association with Bill Ayers?

Nice try, but no gold medal. If Ayers had given Obama millions of dollars it might be different. What Ayers did in his young days pales in comparison to funding death squads. Surely you can do better than this weak reply.

The evidence is strongly against your suggestion.

Just like the Obama campaign took money from Saudi Arabia which also supported Al qaeda. Not to mention Ahmadinejad (Iran). You might want to check up on the name Khalid Al Mansour.

What problem do you have with Hispanics? They are not allowed to invest in profitable companies? Do you hate all Hispanics or just those with more money than you?

I wonder--do you read the articles you cite? Salvadorans in exile in Miami invested in Bain Capital. It turns out that some of their relatives were allegedly part of the death squads, BUT NOT THE INVESTORS THEMSELVES.

    From one of your links:

At the time, U.S. officials were publicly accusing some Salvadoran exiles in Miami of funding right-wing death squads in El Salvador. Some family members of the first Bain Capital investors were later linked to groups responsible for killings, although no evidence indicates that those relatives invested in Bain or benefited from it.

    From another of the links:

Family members of some of those early investors allegedly had ties to right-wing paramilitaries involved in death squads in the country's brutal civil war, although the paper found no evidence that the investors themselves had ties to paramilitaries.

Of course the rich within the country and outside the country supported the death squads ... they wanted their wealth protected.

    From one of your links:

So they funneled money through their relatives in Miami. Still makes it true about money coming from families with ties to death squads. Your quotes only help enforce that this is true.

The facts are that their land had been seized and they were moving their wealth out of El Salvador:

The Bain investors — some of whom had their plantations seized and family members targeted — were waiting out the war in Miami.

"Many of them were trying to move their money elsewhere," said Jeffery M. Paige, a University of Michigan professor who wrote a book about the Salvadoran ruling class. "It was a difficult transition, and of course their investment outlets were limited."

Please, please, READ THE ARTICLES with an open mind:

Among the Bain investors were Francisco R.R. de Sola and his cousin Herbert Arturo de Sola, whose brother Orlando de Sola was suspected by State Department officials and the CIA of backing the right-wing death squads, according to now-declassified documents.

Orlando de Sola, who has denied supporting the death squads, is now serving a four-year prison term for unrelated fraud charges. In an interview at the prison in Metapan, El Salvador, he said he did not benefit from the family investment in Bain Capital. Before Bain, the family's holdings were based in El Salvador, he said. "I would say their relationship with Bain Capital was a step to diversify into foreign investments. But I insist to you, I was not part of it."

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-bain-creation-20120719,0,5698366,full.story

    So we see:

    1. The wealthy landowners in El Salvador took their money with them, contrary to your assertion that they were trying to protect their wealth in El Salvador.

    2. It was relatives of the investors that allegedly helped death squads, not the investors themselves.

    3. An alleged death squad member says he got no investment money from his investor relatives living in Miami.

    4. Newsweek reported in 1994 that Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) had hired a Washington law firm to investigate the same claims when Romney ran against him, but came up short.

BUT--but--but I thought evidence wasn't necessary? Isn't that what Harry Reid -- and you -- basically said about the accusations regarding Romney not paying taxes?

Please sir, surely you realize the poor use of logic concerning your comment.

Again, all Romney has to do is provide his returns and show that Reid was in error and this his 'source' was not making an accurate statement.

How about we talk about Obama's record?

    It sounds like this:

    "It's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault, it's Bush's fault,..."

Well, the thread is not about Bush and saying it is Bush's fault is not quite the same as receiving funding from those who funded death squads.

Why does it seem like the main response to a criticism of Governor Romney is to criticise the president?

I suppose for some where there is nothing to say in opposition try to derail the thread.

Why don't you ask your new buddy to address ITL's second post ?

Sorry, I thought we all were supposed to have something of a 'friendship' here.

The question stands - why does the main tactic to answering criticism of Governor Romney so often end up being an attack on the president?

Surely - if there is a response to the criticism it ought to defend the governor, not divert the attack to the president.

Off topic, and inane. Let's stick with the O/P, which has been destroyed by InTheLight. C.T.Boy should address it, instead of the two of you pretending it's not there.

Agreed - and lets leave the president out of it, shall we?

My point was the 3 of the first 10 posts talked about the president - which as nothing to do with the topic.

So what ? Why gripe about off-topic posts, when C.T.Boy refuses to address the on-topic ones ?

    In a word...perspective.

Especially when it's trash like this.
