Do you get free newsletters, magazines, or emails that help you keep up with what's going on?

If so, what are your favorites and how do I get my paws on some of them? I prefer hard copies so I'm not stuck sitting in a chair reading emails. I read a lot and it's just not that great on my back to have to do it online ALL the time, though it's lovely to have it available and have the choice.

Voice of the Martyrs magazine. I love it! It is a more sobering read, but it gives insight on situations around the world that we as blessed Americans tend to ignorant or complacent toward.

    Baptist ONLY?

I don't know how many of these could be called strictly "Baptist" publications but here is my list (and I highly recommend any of them):

One other thing...not all of them are free because I believe the rule that oftentimes you "get what you pay for"(and if that is true,I'd rather pay for it):(even for the free ones I always try to send an offering regularly)

The "list": (paper & print publications)
-"O Timothy" from David Cloud @ WayOfLife.org (paid)(maybe the only truly "Baptist" publication in the bunch)
-"The Voice of The Martyrs" (free)
-"Israel My Glory" from The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry (paid)
-"Answers" from Answers in Genesis (paid)
-"1:1 Answers Update" from Answers in Genesis (free)
-"Acts & Facts" from Institute for Creation Research (free)
-"Days of Praise"(daily devotional") Institute for Creation Research (free)
-"On Tract" from Fellowship Tract League (free)
-the "Levitt Letter" from the late Zola Levitt's ministry (free)
-"PGM News" - The monthly newsletter from the venerable old "grandaddy of the Rescue Missions" Chicago's Pacific Garden Mission (my wife and I are regular supporters of this great work!) (free)(but DEFINITELY worthy of generous offerings!)

That's pretty much all of the paper and ink stuff and no...I'm not able to read all of it but I have plenty of reference and reading material. One of these days when I head on off to glory somebody can have a nice "collection"!

Now...For the ON-LINE stuff, I get weekly/monthly free updates from the following and that list is always subject to some change:

-"Friday Church News Notes" from David Cloud and [email protected]
-"daily" topical updates from the same
-"Prophecy News Watch" (free) from [email protected] (excellent news source for end-times prophecy-related news)
-"Bible For Today" daily/weekly news and updates from Pastor D.A.Waite of Collingswood NJ from [email protected] (free)
-"Koinonia House" news and views from Chuck and Nancy Missler at [email protected] (free)
-"NewsWithViews" current news and commentary on important matters of national, world, religious & political significance from [email protected] (free daily/weekly updates)
-"Ken Hams Blog" from Answers in Genesis - daily/weekly updates from [email protected] (free)
-"Answers Weekly Update" from Answers in Genesis at [email protected] (free)
-"Lamb & Lion Ministries" by Dr.David Reagan (bible study and prophecy) at [email protected] (weekly/bi-weekly updates)(free)
and lastly (bet ya'll thought I'd never get here!)
-"THE BIBLE Baptist Church and Pastor/Teacher James W. Knox" of Deland,FL at www.jameswknox.org I get occasional weekly/monthly updates from [email protected] on their on-going work at home and around the world. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND his ministry and the following on-going mission/church-planting work they have going on TODAY in Thessaloniki Greece (please check out the following web link)
Project Thessalonica | Bringing The Church Back to Thessalonica
(this one is worthy of our prayers)

Well....That's all I got...I hope some of this is a blessing to some of you...it sure has been to me!

By the way...on a more "secular" note, I regularly read the following: Sea Classics (excellent maritime history) and TRAINS magazine (I'm a railroad nut too!)

    God Bless Ya'll,
    Greg Perry Sr.

The only other paper one that I can think of is the Daily Bread devotion. http://odb.org/ It's available on line and in printed copy too. While the printed version is available at no cost, donations are welcome.

Our church also supplies Open Windows from Lifeway to our members. http://www.lifeway.com/Open-Windows-Magazine/c/N-1z1407u This is a subscription based publication.

Of the devotionals, the best one IMHO is by Oswald Chambers, The Utmost for His Highest. http://utmost.org/ A friend gave me a bound copy that contains the "classic" version. http://utmost.org/classic/today/ that I read and compare to the "updated" version on line. (Which is handy for the clickable links to referenced Bible verses.)

One thing some people tend to forget, in this electronic age, is a pen and ink publication is nice to have when waiting. Especially waiting for doctor's appointments. Since I read Chambers as a part of daily devotions, the other two mentioned are ideal for "waiting". Use that time to catch up or read ahead as the case may be. Or, to read the Bible, itself. A good way, IMHO, to witness to others without having to say a word.

Hurrah! Thanks for all the listings. Click click click...thankfully there's no grasshopper on my keyboard this morning. There was yesterday, scared the tar outta me cuz it blended and I didn't think to look down first...then again, what normal person checks their keyboard for grasshoppers?

I like the weekly newspaper of Kentucky Baptists, The Western Recorder. Our church has several subscriptions and make them available for members to pick up a copy when they're there.

It has good coverage of both Kentucky Baptist goings on and SBC wide. Its editorial policy years ago skewed moderate-liberal, but it has since moved to the middle-right. Its treatment of hot-button issues tends to be straightforward, and any ideological bias is not detected.

What I'm having the toughest time finding seems to be a compilation of information explaining the differences in each different type of Baptist church. I was hoping that the publications would help get a better grasp and feel for each one and what their current concerns or strongest ministries are, but they don't appear to exist! I was especially surprised to not find a publication by the SBC, as they seem to be quite a large organization.

Next best thing...a book written that explains each one's belief system and why they belief such and such. For example, why does this Baptist church believe no instruments in music, while the other is all for pulling out drums and such? Why does one believe women shouldn't cut their hair, while others believe they can? Which ones openly believe in Calvinism and which ones openly reject the concept?
Some are easy to figure out, but others aren't and I'm never sure which one is which.
