My thought? A goldfish could parent better than half those "mothers."

Seeing it once was enough to make me furious that the pervert parents weren't arrested for endangering their kids, or at least slapped upside the head with a large brick of reason.

    Ha! I agree with Gina.

In the particular case cited, neither parent seems to have a clue. Then again, you don't have to have a lisence to procreate and common sense isn't part of the requirements.

Whats the differance in this and LL baseball? I personally think competitive athletics for three, four and five year olds is child abuse and mainly an easy opportubity for parents to live out through their children an experience they were unable to have as a yougster. Yes, I believe that having "Little Miss Peach Blossum Queen", four year old "Home Coming Queens" and even four year old "MVPs" is exploiting you children. I was in involved in youth athletics for twenty five years as a parent, official and spectator and never once did i coach my child during an athletic event.

Now you got me going. Did you know that the one girl on that show had her family investigated by CPS and they decided there was no problem? I am NOT a fan of CPS and think we all might be better off if they are dismantled and we let the police handle criminals, and this only helps reinforce my thinking on that.

The kid's name is "Honey Boo Boo" and what got my attention was in the news. Mommy had her dancing on top of a table/bar at a BAR, yes, dancing for drunks for dollars. CPS apparently doesn't think taking a toddler, dressing her up in heels and a short skirt, and having her shake her butt for money in a bar is a form of abuse.

    Sickening.

What part of "stupid" does this woman not understand? Sometimes I wonder why people like this are allowed to pro-create while people who would make great parents are childless.

Agree. And through junior high for contact sports. Junior high kids have the highest rate of concussions.

    Child Abuse.....!

My wife and I have watched some of those shows on TV just to see what they were about and the two that stand out in my mind are on TLC I think. One of them is Honey Boo Boo and the other one is Toddlers in Tiara's. In my opinion ALL those "parents" should be held on child abuse charges and the shows CANCELLED. How any company could agree to sponsor or advertize their products on those shows is beyond me. The love of money and the pride of life are in full operation here! The not so funny thing is that the same people that will get on the internet and say vile things about the Christian families like the Duggars and the Bates that have stable, godly family shows like theirs(lot's and lot's of beautiful children raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord) are laughing about how cute the above mentioned shows are. Sick and twisted world we live in.

The only way a father would be given full custody is to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the mother is unfit. That is equal to proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that Obama is the best president we've ever had. The mother will almost always be given custody, and the father does well if he gets to see his children on the weekend.

One thing I learned about divorce is what Jerry Reed (country singer from way back) said in one song, "She got the gold mine, and I got the shaft."

Very true, but it does happen. My parents divorced when I was 5 years old and my Dad got custody and rightfully so. I won't explain why.

But you and Jerry Reed are right about 99% of the time.

It all comes down to the "I want my 15 minutes of fame" syndrome. Our nation has become a horde of peeping Tom's through the popularity of "reality" television. We're invited into the homes of celebrity's to rednecks to see everything from the lurid sex, the cursing, the glitz and glamour to alligator hunting and duck call making and more. We can't seem to get enough of it so producers keep offering more and more.

These parents are simply using their daughters to get their 15 minutes of glory. 40% of television programming is reality tv. (http://www.kansascity.com/2010/12/04/2497484/how-reality-tv-took-over-prime.html)

I saw this on the news the other night and this little girl, in her Dolly Parton outfit, didn't appear to me to be dressed any differently than most little girls you'll see out parading around on Halloween night begging for candy at the homes of hundreds of perfect strangers. I think this dad is going to have to go a long way to get sole custody based on that one outfit.

(p.s. I've seen some Honey Boo Boo commercials and ...whew, that's one strange family! LOL)

Hey now!! You can't compare alligator hunting and duck calls to pint size beauty pageants!! ;)

Otherwise I agree. If that is someone's reality, I don't need to be a part of it. Playing dress up on Halloween when make believe is the point of the day (not to start a debate on Halloween btw) is much different than the blatant sexualization of very young girls that goes on in pageants. But I don't think the dad will have a leg to stand on since he didn't put an end to the pageant lifestyle when it began. Too little too late and too much like he's not getting any of the profits from the new show.

I believe that way of dealing with custody has rapidly changed over the last 15 years in many areas. It now seems just as common for a married couple who divorce, with children that they had together, to share joint custody or to see where a father is given full custody just as often as the mother.

A lot has been achieved in this area concerning equal rights.

What I think may contribute to people believing mothers get custody more often is single parenthood. A lot of people have children but remain unmarried and it's pretty common to see mothers having children with multiple fathers. It's not exactly tough to figure out that a lot of these moms end up with full custody, because while both parties are being irresponsible, the guys in these situations get what they want, don't want the responsibility of a kid, and take off. The mother automatically has legal obligations in this type of situation. The father does not, unless the mother goes for child support, which, if the father hasn't stayed around that long, means finding him, possibly having to get a paternity test if he CAN be found, and it can quite a mess. It makes sense that you see the mother's with custody in these situations because the father was never GIVEN any sort of custody. All a mom has to do to ensure that is not name the father on the birth certificate and right there, she has created full custody for herself and the father, IF he is interested, has to jump through hoops to prove paternity...if she didn't take off and make it hard for him to even find her and the baby, if that was her desire.

Still, among divorced couples who have children with each other, I see pretty equal custody going on, whether sole or shared. For the parts of the country that haven't caught up, I sure hope they do so soon! Now there are men who are scared of sole custody, still in the mindset that mothers are more important than fathers and have more instinct on how to do so, but that's changing pretty fast too. Maybe there IS some good in telling men they need to "get in touch with your feminine side."
