President Obama's Twitter account has 18.8 million followers -- but more than half of them really don't exist, according to reports.

A new Web tool has determined that 70% of Obama's crowd includes "fake followers," The New York Times reports in a story about how Twitter followers can be purchased.

    CONTINUE . . .

Wonder when Obama will have this info classified top secret. Everything else about him is top secret.

And what is the point in having non-existent twitter followers?

If we carefully read the article we see that this is an estimate based on an aggregate approximation of spammers, fake accounts, and bots which frequently show up on celebrity accounts.

Nobody has sat down and looked through all of President Obama's followers to determine the accuracy of this statement.

My twitter acct is not nearly as high profile as President Obama 's but I get two or three spammers or bot accounts following me every week. Since my follower numbers are lower than the President's I can delete these easily; but you've got to stay on top of it.

In my reading of this article I see speculation and estimations and not actual counting. The title of the article misleads the intent of the article. Besides, President Obama doesn't actually run his twitter account...though he does have some input from time to time probably. Just like any other high profile celebrity he has people to do t for him.

Besides, who cares if he has fake followers? This is a nettlesome issue that means nothing to the campaign. It's a waste of time and electrons. This is just an ad hominem at its worst.

Also, we see a typical conspiracy theory tactic--innuendo. Look at the OP again:

    1. Obama has thousands of fake Twitter followers.

    2. Twitter followers may be bought.

    3. Innuendo is supposed to lead me to conclude that Obama has bought his fake Twitter followers.

Yeah but nobody does innuendo quite like the mainstream corporate media.

They sold us a story about the killing of OBL with no evidence what so ever. Bet you still believe it all just the same though eh?

If Al Queda says OBL was killed by the U.S. please tell me how the MSM is convincing them to play along?

An official al-Qaeda Web site on Friday identified the former U.S. Navy SEAL who wrote a book about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, and readers called for the author’s death.

The site posted a photograph and the name of the commando, who had written under a pseudonym but whose name was revealed Thursday on Fox News. The site called him “the dog who murdered the martyr Sheikh Osama bin Laden.”

    Anyway, this is getting off-topic.

    Official Al Qaeda website?

You'll believe just about anything so long as it's labeled "official" won't ya? A site called "SITE" released this bit of false propagagda. Not an "official" Al Qaeda site by any means but a US military contractor who's bread and butter depends on keeping the fraudulent "war on terror" going.

“The statement, translated by SITE, lauded the late militant, threatened to take action against the United States, and urged Pakistanis to “rise up and revolt.”

SITE’s claim that “Al-Qaeda” has confirmed the official White House version of events concerning the death of Bin Laden, thereby lending presumed credence to a narrative that has quickly attracted derision and suspicion even amongst mainstream journalists, is about as credible as if Barney the Purple Dinosaur had made a statement assuring us that Osama was killed on Sunday evening.

SITE is a US military-industrial complex front and has been caught red-handed releasing fake Al-Qaeda tapes on numerous occasions.

The SITE organization is nothing more than a contractor for the U.S. government, receiving some $500,000 a year annually from Uncle Sam, the majority of which is paid for by U.S. taxpayers. The group was founded by Rita Katz, the daughter of an executed Israeli spy. Katz has worked closely with the Department of Justice, Department of the Treasury, and the Department of Homeland Security.

    < snip >

SITE’s continued existence relies on fleecing the American taxpayer by way of contracts with the U.S. government and constantly invoking and hyping the hugely exaggerated threat of alleged Al-Qaeda groups in the Middle East.

The organization has proven itself adept at releasing Al-Qaeda propaganda tapes at the most politically expedient times for both the Bush and Obama administrations. For example, just two days after it was revealed that Al-Qaeda mastermind and CIA stooge Anwar Al-Awlaki had met with Pentagon top brass only a matter of months after 9/11, SITE released a video tape of Awlaki re-affirming his commitment to global jihad and praising the actions of the Fort Hood shooter and the Christmas Day bomber.

And the book is a fraud. But it must be true cuz Barney the Purple Dinosaur says so!

Al Qaeda used to be our enemy InTheLight now they're sexy foreign fighter allies helping us to overthrow evil regimes.

"Sexy Islamic extremists are good, American veterans are bad". Get with the times man!

Another staple of the conspiracy theorist is that they, and only they, know the truth and all others are dupes being manipulated by forces beyond their control.

And your response is a staple of people who find they are unable to poo poo the evidence confronting them.

Once again the "official story" doesn't hold water and once again you find yourself left with only silly accusations to defend it. If I were you I'd be wondering why you have no evidence other than the word of "officialdom" to go on.

If it doesn't fit in your "official" corporate induced paradigm call it a conspiracy theory. No need to address all the evidence after that, huh? Thin man, very very thin indeed.

Remember when "officialdom" told you that the "too big to fail banks" repaid all the TARP money? Turns out "officialdom" was lying then to didn't it?
