    Hello Everyone,

I joined the board a few days ago but had yet to post until now. I am 32 years old and I live outside of Little Rock, Ar. I have been following the posts in the debate forum for a few days and am really enjoying the information that is getting posted there. I have founf myself for the past year trying to really solidify what I believe and after taking a Theology class, I had a whoel world of questions open up to me. I am at the point that this guy ---> :BangHead: is at. I grew up Southern Baptist and still consider myself so but I had not even realized there were different beliefs that fell within the convention until recently. So long story short I have embarked upon this frustrating journey to know what I believe and why. MacArthur has really influenced me of late and Ive listened to a little bit of R.C. Sproul as well but I grew up on Charles Stanley, Adrian Rogers and Charles Swindoll. I am not sure on what side of the fence I sit on with a number of issues...Election and Free will had me beating my head for a while. Anyway, I am hoping to make some friends and get some good info along the way.

    God Bless,

    Josh

    Welcome aboard!! :wavey:
    --------------------------
Just out of curiosity, Hiya, I was wondering just how far (& from what direction) do you live "just out of Little Rock, AR"?

The reason for me asking you this is that when I was employed by what used to be called BellSouth Telecommunications (now AT&T [grrr!]) as an electronic technician whose job included [along w/about a dozen other responsiblities!] remotely monitoring [via a computer workstation] BST's Signal Transfer Points (STPs) whose SS7 protocol links served to interconnect voice and/or data telecommunications to other central offices (and/or "various other voice/data delivery platforms") [You still following me?], I (along w/some other ETs in the SS7 work group) was twice sent to a vendor's (First it was Digital Switching Corp. [DSC], then it became Alcatel, and now it's [unless they've since been sold out to some other company{-ies}]) since I retired from them in mid-June, 2011!] Alacatel-Lucent!!) training school located either in Dallas (when it was DSC) or Plano (a VERY WEALTHY suburb of Dallas) after Alcatel [or maybe it was Alcatel-Lucent!] bought out DSC!), TX (Whewwwww! Did I just post all of that just to get to this point?!!?:tonofbricks:).

[I'm POSITIVE that I've lost all but the very diligent readers by now!!....] Anyway, in order to get to these vendor schools, one usually would take I-40 headed west until one met up w/I-30 (also going west) "just outside Little Rock, AR (on the S/SE side of the greater metropolitan area of Little Rock, AR [not too far from the "Little Rock, AR, 'International' Air Port])."

......So-o-o....my real question to you is, simply, did I (by any remote chance) happen to drive anywhere close to where you live?

(Now, if you can figure out what I just asked you, then you're a far better person than I am!!):smilewinkgrin:

I-40 and I-30 merge at two places in/around Little Rock that I know of. Sounds like to me you might have been near the downtown area if you were close to the airport. I am located W on I-30 in the Benton/Bryant area. I moved here in 2009 after I was medically retired from the Army so my knowledge of the area is limited. God Bless!!

BTW, on the return leg of my first journey through AR, I stopped for gas about 125-130 miles SW of Little Rock on I-30.

    That's right: HOPE, Arkansas!! :applause:

After traveling through that run-down, beat-up little grungy tourist trap, I could plainly see why somebody would want to move out of there to some other place .... and real quick-like too!!

Sorry 'bout that former POTUS William Jefferson Blythe Clinton!! :tongue3:

Don't forget that not only is Clintons hometown here but Little Rock also has the Clinton Library which has (prepare yourself) an exact replica of the oval office from when Bill resided there. I know....I felt the same way too! I think we are naming the airport after him and Hillary as well.

I'm sure that the main attraction in the Clinton library just has to be that dress of Monica Liewinski's replete with that ....er....ah....."Presidential Residue" on it!!!

Welcome to the board, Josh. You'll find all kinds of folks and all kinds of opinions here. We have some very seasoned debaters, so be ready!

By the way, thank you for your service to our country. I have lots of family in the armed forces and it makes me really appreciate our military.

    Welcome, Josh.

A few years ago, following a mission trip to Romania, I undertook a re-evaluation of what we Baptists preach, teach, believe and practice. It was not fun.

In the end, I kept most of what I believed, but found that I had to jettison a thing or two.

Testing what I believed was not always pleasant, but I came to the conclusion that if it can't stand rigorous testing, I don't need it. Bless you in your search for truth. You'll be stronger for it.

    Tom,

Thanks for sharing your experience....sometimes I study myself into a migraine and have to close the books for a few days and just read the Word so that I can focus only on God for a bit. There is alot to filter through when studying the difference doctrines and alot of times all sides have good arguments. I have bounced back and forth on some doctrines that I just wish I could find a foundation in order to stand upon.

    In Truth,

    Josh

    Tom,

Also, how did you go about re-evaluating our doctrines? Do you recommend any material (concordances, commentaries, books) besides the Bible that is trustworthy? I have such a strong desire to know the truth but I am having a hard time differentiating between what is and is not and I do not want to get caught up in the legality of it all. Do you have a process for testing?

    In Truth,

    Josh
