Halloween (Oct 31) is about 9 weeks away.

SARGE....I thought you tired of trying to resurrect this old dead horse!!! :tongue3:

    OK....

    We plan to:

    1) Cancel all services prior to and following Halloween,

    2) Dress up like Goths, and

    3) Welcome the local witch's covens to our campus to prove to everyone near and far that we whole-heartedly endorse and approve their method of reaching out to the world beyond this realm of mortality!!
    ---------------------
Oh, yes.....For the sake of biblical unity and diversity, Westboro Baptist Church has been asked to help out in the area of crowd control at our outreach coven being held at the Nashville National Veterans Cemetery.
    ---------------------

    Any questions?!!? :tonofbricks:

Our church is discussing doing a reverse trick or treat. It's where the people go door to door, and give out tracts instead of getting candy.

West Virginia was "created" by the pro-union controlled faction of the incumbent Republican congressional majority during the War of Northern Agression in the 1860's.

Most folks in the far western counties of what was once all of the Commonwealth of Virginia didn't support VA's secession from the union in 1861. They, operating under the authority of the spin-off "State of Kanawha," petitioned Congress to allow them to, in effect, secede from Virginia and thus create an entirely new territory/state.

Since the US Constitution didn't specifically deal with the question of whether or not it was permissible for a part of a state to secede from the rest of that state without the approval of that state's legislature (something for which the remainder of the Commonwealth state legislature [now part of the CONFEDERATE States of America] did NOT approve in the case of the western counties of VA!!), the Republican-controlled Union Congress (what was left of the US that is) decided that since VA had seceded from the Union--which the US Congress considered to be an act of rebellion under the US Constitution--they considered VA's disapproval of the "State of Kanawha's" secession of what is now WV to be a moot point.

Hence, the Republican controlled US Congress (under the pro-Union faction's control) agreed to approve the admission of those western counties of VA as a new and separate State of the US. This approval was then sent to the Republican POTUS, Abraham Lincoln, who heartily agreed to it and signed his name to that act of Congress.

Thus, on June 20, 1863, the spin-off "State of Kanawha" became the 35th State of the Union under its new name --West Virginia!

    So, yes, WV was INDEED formed from S - P - L - I - T!!!

And that, my students, is today's US history/civics lesson. Study carefully because this will definitely be one of the major essay questions on your next test!!!

We cancel services, wear black robes, form a five point star, and burn cats, while we sing "Meow, Meow, Meow, Meow"

Honestly, SN, you really should give a spew alert for those of us who eat/drink at the computer. Sigh. Now I have to clean my screen again.

Poor Salty. By now you should know we've used up all the debates about Halloween and have nothing left to do but derail your thread. . .

Praise GOD, the fundemental baptist churches here in RI IGNORE October 31. A few " fellowship" churches have parking lot trick or treat parties. I can't see patronizing a day on which has come from such evil and gothic roots. I dont like wishy washy. You are either for it or against it. I Ignore that day as well. Ihave given out tracts with candy to the trick or treaters in the past, but I decided not to patronize the day at all. I began handing out tracts all year long where ever I go.

    Hellyween !!!

Ya'll is one crazy bunch of hillbillies in here! That said....I do downplay halloween as much as possible. The origins of it are definitely not worthy of a Bible Believers recognition. However....I don't go ballistic when my grandkids show up in their costumes. When they get a little older I do plan on telling them some truth about the subject though if it is at all possible. I'm of the opinion that the only truly Biblically supportable "holiday" that we SHOULD recognize is Thanksgiving. Giving of thanks ought to never go unrecognized...in my opinion. By the way....I shore can't see myself ever saying, "Lord, thank you for Halloween...." NOT!!! Maybe we could say..."Lord, PROTECT us FROM the evil on this all hallows eve!" Think about it.
