"Christian" principles more than Biblical ones, IMHO.

    I put down 'Maybe.'

No doubt the country was founded on Judeo-Christian ethics embodied in the Ten Commandments and elsewhere in the Bible. Yes, the vast majority of citizens in the American colonies were Christians. Yes, you can find hundreds of quotes by patriots of the day professing belief in Christ.

    However.

If you really look at the documents, really look at the inscriptions on monuments, really look at other historical documents you will find the phrases "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus our Savior" largely to be absent. Instead you see "God" or "Providence" or "Creator".

Not to the degree that many misinformed evangelicals think it was, we were not founded to be a Christian theocratic oligarchy.

It reflects Locke, Rousseau, and ancient Greek republicanism than it does Jesus, Paul, & the Apostles.

The "Christian principles" that the OP alludes to as having been used by the Founding Fathers are all found in the Old Testament.

Also MANY pagan roots stemming from the occult as well. All we have to do is look at the Capital building in proportion to the Washington Monument (compare to vatican) and the majority of our founding fathers being freemasons (high order). Last week I would have voted "yes". Today I'm not so sure particularly with a knights of templar offshoot possibly taking office in November.

Then you need to look a heck of a lot closer at our architecture, inscriptions...even our money to see the paganism.

I would say basic Judeo-Christian principles were one integral part in the thought processes which resulted in the founding of the United States along with other thoughts from the Age of Reason as expressed by Locke, Rousseau, Paine, and Jefferson.

Yes, but they all were intetrested though in America remaining a nation that would uphold "Christian morality/ethics", and would NOT have approved of this "seperastion of church and State", that met really taking God right out of the Public discourse!

Outstanding text. Ultimately I disagreed with many of his conclusions, but he has developed a rather good text.
