Somehow I feel the GOP backers on this BB will be much more forgiving of Ryan's fibs than they were of Gores. Am I right?

Why would he tell such a silly lie?

If him getting a running time wrong bothers you, don't vote for him.

Do you consider telling a lie a character flaw?

C4K asked Why would he tell such a silly lie?

Excellent question and one only Ryan can answer. I would like to hear or read his answer.

When someone proves he intentionally meant to mislead people I will be able to answer that question. But those who point fingers need to be sure they are themselves free of their accusations.

Did you give Gore the same benefit of the doubt?

I don't have any memory of anything Gore said. And why does it have to be Gore? Why not Bush?

What a lovely opening, but I won't take it.

Do you have the same tolerant attitude toward Obama?

Are you saying that Bush was a liar?

Why Gore and not Bush? Because Gore was/is a Democrat.

'Why would he tell such a silly lie?' has several possibilities

    1) To make himself look good
    2) (Preacher like) to make a point
    3) Not every marathon he ran had to be on an official record. The faster ones may have been in training
    4) (As we all know) stories change with time - the fish gets bigger and speeds get faster.

Did Obama get a running time wrong? Sure I will be tolerant of that all day long. Why Obama though? Why is Obama the comparison? Why not Bush or Romney?

If dirt on Ryan consists of getting a time of a marathon run twenty-two years ago wrong, well...

    What lovely and dishonest dodges.

Gotta run, getting late enough here that I need to fix our evening meal.

    Blessings to all.

What about that lying liar in the White House and the lies he tells? I would like to hear his excuses; well not really, I am tired of him blaming Bush, the weather, the oil spill, Bush again, the Europeans, Bush again, the weather, the House Republicans, Wall Street, Bush again, and so on ad infinitum. Obamma is a far better liar than Billy boy Clinton.

There's a difference between stating one's time from a marathon run 22 years ago and taking credit for inventing the internet.

How ridiculous can the issues get? I wonder if he has more cavities than Biden, a sure sign he has drank too many sodas contrary to Mayor Bloomberg's new standard.

I think he did the same thing we all have done at one time or another- he mis-spoke and there wasn't a gracious way to take it back on air. It's in the same category as Obama's "57 states" comment, IMO.

The New Yorker got this statement from Rep. Ryan via a Ryan spokesman:
The race was more than 20 years ago, but my brother Tobin—who ran Boston last year—reminds me that he is the owner of the fastest marathon in the family and has never himself ran a sub-three. If I were to do any rounding, it would certainly be to four hours, not three. He gave me a good ribbing over this at dinner tonight.”

Fair enough - still sounds like he could have fit behind any number of pulpits used to 'evangelisticly speaking' :)

You ever see than Andy Griffith episode where he remembered capturing a wildcat and Aunt Bea remembered it, shall we say, differently?
