Just out of curiosity and fairness, as the question has been asked in another thread about being better off, were you better off at the end of the Bush years than when he took office.

I most definitely was much worse off than when he too office.

When Bush was in office, my salary was $680,000 per year. I had a house here in Kentucky, one in Florida, and one in Wyoming. Along with this, we owned several Lexus's, ten boats, and two aircraft. This does not include the gold, silver, stocks and bonds.

Today, I am making $9,000 per year working at Barnum and Baileys circus cleaning up elephants. We live in a pull along camper, and own a 1971 Pinto. We get all of our clothes from Goodwill. Our total bank account is $543. Our diet is mostly beans and rice.

The erosion started at 12:01 January 20,2009, and has not stopped since.

On a serious note, it is hard to judge. In 2008, I was working a full time and a part time job. Now, I am retired and working a part time job. The heart operation set us back somewhat, but, in general, day to day, I cannot tell lots of difference. Bank accounts are about the same. We do about the same things, give the same amount to the church, etc.

Although I liked Reagan, I think the question, "Are you better off than you were four years ago?" is quite selfish and totally misses the point of how the nation is doing overall, the economy, jobs, working class, manufactoring, etc. I think the question is, "Do you feel this nation is better off than it was four years ago?" Without a doubt, the answer is no.

    Yes,
The church I pastor offerings are down over 1,000 a week even when the attendance is up and the cost of everything is going up. I am paying more out of my salary (which has remained the same since that time) for insurance, for gas, for food etc.

My church has lost 4 families (total 17 people) since 2008 because jobs dried up and they moved for a better jobs market.

I am worse off because there is a President who is for unrestrained abortions and the government takeover of insurance.

So the simple answer is yes.

Saw this right after i posted. Democratic Governor admits what everyone else already knows. He managed to maintain the party line by blaming President Bush. If President Obama wins this time and when things go even farther downhill(and they will if he wins), the leftists in politics and on this board will still be blaming President Bush.

To be completely honest, I did very well Bush's last term until the very end. I got many hours overtime for several years. At the very end of '08 when the economy crashed we had some furloughs at work and I had to collect unemployment. In Dec. 08 we worked one week, had one week off. But after that business picked up again. I had a rough 2 to 3 months, but they were not too bad. I am careful with money (Translation- I am CHEAP!) and was able to keep up with all my bills.

After Obama took over, things did not get worse, but they did not get better either. We went 3 years without receiving any raises. This year, we got a very modest raise.

I am about the same, maybe a little worse off right now than I was in Jan. 2009. This is because my company (which serves other companies) is not doing as well, especially over the past 18-24 months. Thus, I saw a much smaller bonus and raise this year. Our company will thrive when the overall economy thrives (thus, more money that those other companies can spend on our services).

I can tell you this: If Obama is reelected, then my company will be much worse off by 2016, and by consequence, I will be worse off. Obama has created such a negative environment for business with his policies, rhetoric and lack of leadership that I can guarantee that the next 4 years of Obama will be even worse than the last 4.

And I think the electorate is starting to sense this. I think this could end up being like 1980 all over again, where Romney, like Reagan keeps building momentum and wins in a landslide. At least, that is what I hope. Otherwise, this country will be in malaise for several more years.

I was NOT better off in 2008. Personally, I'm doing just fine financially.

    Yes, we know.

    You inherited money.

But that really has nothing to do with the economy now does it?

I was much better off during the Bush years. I felt like I still lived in the land of the free and the home of the brave not under the semi-dictatorship of Obamma.

I started a new job in Jan of 12. I am starting to make more money than I did driving taxi last year.

Did Obama have anything to do with it? Lets see - Ford is the only car company that did not take a government bailout...

How so seeing as how the Bush administration passed:

The Patriot Act that took away some of your civil rights.

Created the Homeland Security and TSA that now looks over your shoulder and through your suitcases and carry-on bags. [In all my travels I never lost anything until the first time the TSA checked through a checked suitcase ... came up missing clothing and some personal items.]

His watch ended in 2008. So were you better off in 2000 or 2008? There is no blame here, just a question.

I think the real question should be- "Will we be better off in 2014 when much of 'Obamacare' goes into effect?"

We're getting ourselves in a tizzy here, fellas. God will take care of us because we trust Him. I being old, was once young. I have never seen the righteous forsaken, neither His seed begging bread. He will take care of His own.
