    $16 trillion in debt.

The Treasury Department debt clock just rolled over $16,000,000,000,000 and in time for the democrats to celebrate tonight. They want to spend the country into the oblivion of abject socialism with morals lower than an alley cat. And my apologies to all alley cat lovers here.

Ironic the US Debt Clock rolled over to $16 TRILLION on the opening day of the DNC. 1/3 of that is what obama gave us in 3-1/2 years.

FYI, if voters like you reelect him enough times, the debt could reach 1000 trillion. For your convenience, that is called one quadrillion.

As FDR proved, the government CAN spend us out of a depression. It must do so short term to kickstart a sluggish economy, when the private sector is shrinking and unable to do so.

And by the way, both parties have a full share in this one.

You are right, both parties are to blame. Both nominees are pathetic. Romney is just less so.

We have become so used to the word one trillion, that it becomes another figure that we dismiss. Most cannot even conceive the number in their minds. As was pointed out, the next level is quadrillion, one thousand trillion. I do not know if there is even that much wealth in the entire world.

Long ago, we used to hear millions of dollars in debt, then billions, now trillions. Will we hear quadrillion in our life?

Does anyone really believe that the increase in debt will be slowed if Gov Romney is elected?

In 2016 we are looking at a $25,000,000,000,000,000 debt no matter who is elected.

Not really. The draft in 1940 reduced unemployment. Pearl Harbor ended the depression!

Whoops! You're right, thanks for the catch.

I should have just said 'By 2016 the US will have a 25 trillion dollar debt no matter who is elected.'

I don't believe it will be that high but could easily reach $20 trillion.

Frankly I believe that if the debt is to be brought under control means testing for both Social Security and Medicare, perhaps a major medical provision. I realize that people paid into these programs but I realize that the coffers are empty, they are Ponzi schemes now.

Also I am not sure what the cut off should be but a couple with an income of say $150,000 could do without SS. Might need to be higher for Medicare but I doubt it. I have tried to make my views known to my Congressional Delegation but that is like shoveling sand against the tide.
