I've noticed that the Dems are putting a heavy emphasis on the military and veteran issues. One of Michelle Obama's signature issues as first lady is the treatment and well-being of families of veterans. In addition the Dems had several veterans give speeches during the first day of their convention. They were proud of the job that Obama has done in Iraq and Afghanistan (and rightly so, mostly.) Many of the conventioneers were wearing military or veteran clothing.

There wasn't much attention paid to the military and veterans at the Republican convention, and nary a mention of Iraq and Afghanistan. In fact, I can't recall any veteran presence at their convention.

I found this to be an odd transposition of traditional roles of the political parties and the military.

He gave the go ahead on Bin Laden after Bush set up the circumstances to get that done. He made a mess of both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nice try Rev, but it won't wash. The mess was made before he took office by your hero, Bush. He has gradually cleaned jp the mess and we will be bringing all our troops home.

Romney wants to involve us in more wars. After all that will help corporations make money ... but will kill lots of young middle-class and poor kids. The Republicans have made sure these wars have enriched the rich while being paid for with lives by the poor and middle-class.

I don't how a reasonable person could say the former administration had set up Iraq and Afghanistan for success or at least a way to get things done. That clearly wasn't the case.

Both parties need to reach out to military vets and their families. One of the sad truths is that whenever our politicians declare war it is the troops who pay the final and enduring price for those decisions. Even a brief history of vets affairs during and after military conflict shows that they are always neglected, maligned, and forgotten. They deserve better. Maybe this is a change. That would be good.

Romney spent the day before the Republican convention with the American Legion where he addressed their annual Convention. Source at npr.org

Now that obama has pulled the troops out of Iraq, and we have no input into the Iraqi government any longer, Iran is using Iraqi air space to transport supplies to the Syrian government.

Our troops died in Iraq in vain. I disagreed with going into Iraq and disagreed with how it all went down and now we see folly in it all. The foolishness of men.

That's good to know, but they had a national stage for 3 days and the Reps barely said a word about the military, Iraq, or Afghanistan.
