Democrats Abroad

    Did you know that the Democratic Party awards 19 delegates to the official organization "Democrats Abroad"

    Now, IMHO; a party should be allowed to award its delegates any way they please.

    But if you were on the rules committee, would you vote yea or nay for Americans living overseas?

    My first thought was can these American Citizens overseas also vote in their state or commonwealth primary? (would a Republican be able to vote in the ACO committee -as in an open primary?

    In addition, (again if you were on the rules committee) allow residents of American Samoa, Puerto Rico, ect bellowed to vote on convention from their Commonwealth - even though they can not vote in the national election? Thoughts

    Republicans allow delegates to cast their votes at the Convention, also. I remember seeing American Samoa and Puerto Rico, specifically, and Guam (Guam has more military members per capita than anywhere else in the US, they said).

    The delegates are as follows:

    For Jurisdictions without Constitutionally Elected Members of Congress [Rule 13(a)(4)]:

    6 at-large delegates from American Samoa.
    16 at-large delegates from the District of Columbia.
    6 at-large delegates from Guam.
    6 at-large delegates from the Northern Mariana Islands.
    20 at-large delegates from Puerto Rico.
    6 at-large delegates from Virgin Islands.

    I think it is fine for them to be involved in the Conventions. :)

    What I don't agree with is having Congress person(s) from Washington DC allowed to sit on House committees and vote on bills in the House and having such great access to lobby the House in order to affect public policy. (Mostly liberal causes and handouts) My opinion.

    Of course...if someone disagrees with you, silence their voice. DC should either be a state or made part of Maryland to give the US citizens there their full rightful votes.
