Kamala helped the middle class, Romney has no understanding of the middle class or the poor and appears to have no real interest in helping them.

Romney's comment sound rather like Marie Antoinette's "Let them eat cake" comment.

The banks engineered the crash by encouraging the suckers to buy houses they could not afford. Yes, "Sucker born every minute," P. T. Barnum, but is our national policy to be governed by circus ethics?

The only "Kamala" I knew was the "Ugandan Giant" that slapped his belly all the time while in the wrasslin' rang.

My understanding is that in 2006 [ I believe] the Republicans wanted to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac but caved to the pervert from Mass. Barney Franks!

I have to agree with this. My baby sister, all the way back in 1994, financed a trailer(singlewide) working at a convience store making minimum wage($4.25/hr) and also while being a single mother. They take on people who have no right in purchasing a home, because they knew her income right off. Of course, she couldn't pay for it, and then got mad when she had to let it go back.

Actually, the banks acted under pressuring from the Democrats (Barney Frank, et al) to provide home loans to everyone whether or not they could afford them and under great pressure to relax their lending practices so low income people and those in inner cities could own a home, the American Dream. Do not blame the banks, they were the fall guys, while Barney Frank and the rest of those responsible for the mess are still in Congress.

Here again, everyone is going down their own rabbit trails and ignoring the central question. So let's try again. When Romney makes a statement like:

Does this not show an insensitivity to the pain people were going through by the foreclosures?

Another statement that also, IMHO, showed insensitivity was his "Go home and dial 211," to the folk who had suffered from flooding in the recent hurricane. Those surely were not comforting words. They were words of a person who is out of touch with real life as a large majority of people have to live it.

It reminds me of a kid I met from a very rich family. The topic in the group was what would each of our families do if a tsunami hit our area. This kid said, "That would be no problem. We would just move to our house in Majorca."

Not really. If some people were stupid enough to go for ARMs or to buy houses they couldn't afford in the first place, then oh well. You can't legislate against stupidity.

Now, if they lost a job and could not pay their mortgage that is something else. But consider this:

Let me quote you a little history from my own family: My grandparents lived through the Great Depression. In order to keep their house in the city, they moved in with my great grandparents in the country and rented out their city house for enough to cover the interest payments. After enough time went by and the economy started to recover, they moved back into their city house. They kept their house and were not foreclosed on.

If something were to happen and we would face unemployment, we would not default on the mortgage if at all possible. If it meant to rent out the home and move into a 1-bedroom apartment or move in with family in order to keep up the payments, then that would be what we would do, or we would put our house on the market, hope for a sale, hope to break even (knowing we have lost about 40% of our value/equity) or if not, suck up the loss and dust off our shoes and move on.

The housing market has to correct itself and it will if government would keep out of it. Mitt Romney is a businessman and knows that.

It only sounds heartless to people who wait for government to bail them out of whatever mess they are in, IMO.

The real question about this issue is this:

Do we want a businessman who has the skill set, desire, creativity, experience, and proven track record to turn the economy around or do we want 4 more years of ineptitude, more unemployment, more food stamps, more welfare, more taxes, and government control on our healthcare but gives us flowery words and meaningless phrases to make us feel warm and fuzzy?

I do not see him as a good businessman, but an opportunist to make money for his company and himself through the suffering of others. Remember he said, "I love to fire people." He does very insensitive comments at times. Some of the companies that Bain took over did create jobs, but others they put completely out of business and everyone lost their job. I have searched but have yet to find if the number of jobs created minus the number of jobs lost would be a positive or a negative number. I would like to see that.
