Co Operative Program SBC

I'm answering these to the best of my knowledge as a 6-year SBCer & Graduate of SBTS....but...these answers are not authoritative.

I'm fairly sure there isn't...as long as its something. I know of churches that give 10%, and others that give 3%. Our church does not give a percentage...but rather a set amount each year regardless of giving. I believe it equals around 3% of our budget.

Lottie moon is NOT considered Cooperative program giving...HOWEVER, the recent Great Commision Resurgence, among other things, declared that it would now recognize Lottie Moon Giving as "great commission giving" When reporting statistics...(previously all the attention was given to CP giving...so for example when a man was nominated for president of SBC, people would comment on how much his church gave to the CP as if that were a measure of whether he would be a good SBC president)

As I Said, I don't know if there actually is a minimum...but your church is not unusual in this...the trends actually show that churches on average send about half of what they did in 1979.

My own church has cut its CP giving by more than half, but designated that extra money to go directly to Lottie moon (IMB missionaries).

 

I think that is correct, there is no minimum percentage. Our church is much smaller. We give some to all three levels, SBC, KY and association. We give to the Lottie Moon, Ann Landers, and Eliza Broadus for special mission offerings. We also support independent missionaries who work outside the SBC framework. Lots of our budget goes to outreach.

 

You do know Ann Landers writes an advice column in the newspaper, and Annie Armstrong is the namesake behind the SBC Easter offering, right?

According to the SBC Constitution:

A church is allotted one messenger card for being "a bona fide contributor to the Convention's work during the preceding fiscal year".

Additional messenger cards are allotted according to an incremental formula: one for every 250 members OR every 250 dollar contribution your church reported.

10 cards max per church.



Georgia Baptist Convention's VantagePoint magazine offered this guidance:

"Q: How much does a church have to give in order to receive SBC Messenger Cards?
A:According to ARTICLE III. 1. of the SBC Bylaws, a church must have “been a bona fide contributor to the Convention’s work.” A minimum of $1.00 (unrestricted or restricted) must be given to SBC causes to receive SBC messenger cards.

Q: Does my church have to give through the Cooperative Program (CP) in order to receive messenger cards?
A: A church must give to one or more legitimate SBC agencies or SBC causes – Cooperative Program, Annie Armstrong, Lottie Moon, SBC Seminaries, undesignated International Missions and/or North American Missions, World Hunger, etc. – to receive SBC Messenger Cards. It is preferred that you give through the Cooperative Program; however, a church does not have to give through the Cooperative Program to receive SBC messenger cards."
