That was a very good video, and reminds me of a time when we had pride in the manufacturing base of this country. The line you quoted above is very prophetic of today. It was a good time to be raising a family. It seems like around the late 40s or early 50s.

What would it take to bring back our factories? There is enough work to repair our infrastructure alone to bring about a good employment rate. We need more factory workers and less retail coustomer service people. We need more scientists and fewer artists and actors. If we want to eliminate entire industries, instead of auto workers, steel workers, and assembly plants, Hollywood types, environmentalists nut cases, and psycho therapists would be a good start.

We need people who can create things with their minds and hands, down to earth people. This nation would do fine without people who teach anger management classes and write books how to raise children. We can figure that out like our grandparents did.

    Thanks for posting the video.

    Since you asked:

    1. A healthy import duty on all manufactured consumer goods.

    2. OR world war three.

    3. OR a $10 cut in US wages plus a $5 raise in Indian/Chinese wages.

All WW3 would bring is the end of civilization. It could not be a quick reversal, but gradually start becoming more dependent on ourselves would help. A good start would be to quit borrowing money from China to pay for ridiculous government programs. We now borrow money from a country that we did not even have relations with in the 60s and most of the 70s. Your options one and three are based on a premise that we have to always remain intertwined with the world, mostly a world that despises our values, freedom, and liberty.

That may be an unintended consequence of "free trade" but is not descriptive of how national debt is generated. There are three general ways of generating national debt. The first is by government kiting bad checks e.g. conducting wars off the books.

The second is by selling government bonds, e.g. savings bonds and T-Bills.

In the US a third was is for the Fed to invent new money and use it to buy existing bad government debt e.g. Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac bad paper. Or the Fed could invent new money and use it to bid on Treasury auctions.
