I am not a trickle down person I am a trickle up person. Unless a person is born rich they become rich by marketing a product/service for which other people are willing to pay. That is the essence of a free enterprise system.

Back to Reagan. I believe him to be the greatest president of the last 100 years and that includes FDR. Reagan defeated the Soviet Union without firing a shot and that in spite of serious opposition from the left leaning democrat party. His vision started the development of a missile defense system [Strategic Defense Initiative], again opposed by the democrats and derided as Star Wars. The system has been demonstrated as viable for limited missile attack and who knows what future development will bring.

Reagan's tax policies were beneficial to all, particularly the middle income wage earner. The tax system that had taken as much as 95% at the margin [during WWII] was full of loopholes, that were the direct result of these asinine rates, which enabled those with the money to avoid such rates.

I recall the inflation years of Carter. The place I worked on occasion gave two cost of living wage increases in one year. With a marginal rate of 50%, a state income tax of 7%, and the SS tax only about 30% was left. That is insane.

Romney made a very significant statement the other day, perhaps in the last debate, that is both true and tells us something about this generous man. He said that the wealthy will do well regardless of the economy. That is true. He said further that the middle income folks were the ones whose means suffered in a weak economy. that is true. Under Obama the average family income has declined about 105 or $4000+. Romney has said that his goal is to improve the lot of the middle income folks.

I am sure that some will say:" What about the poor?" I would remind these people that 47 million are receiving food stamps and many are getting free cell phones!

What it shows is the rich started getting richer exponentially beginning around 1980 which coincides with the intentional destruction of the labor unions.

The labor unions destroyed themselves by allowing corrupt leadership to take over the unions.

I am not anti union. I was raised in the coal fields of Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. Some of my family including my father were in the UMW. I know what the UMW did for the mine workers. I also know that corrupt leaders like Trumka have destroyed the labor union movement.

I am not anti union but I am against public service unions. The corrupt leaders of these unions with the aid of spineless politicians is well on the way to bankrupting many cities and possibly states.
